Hey guys,

I'm looking for a handy advice for my 07 Vantage V8.

After I bought my new love in July, I finally had a chance to have a proper look underneath and carry out some TLC, also see what sort of jobs I will have to schedule - with my trusted mechanic friend - to bring the car up to my standards.

The reason I'm saying this is because it seems like the certain AM dealership just didn't have any standards. Seems like the underfloor tray on the back of the car had never been off (took us 2 hours to remove 10 screws to take it off) that makes me wonder how did they inspect the car for 9 years... Anyway, we managed to get rid of some of the rust building up and treat it with a wax that will hopefully prolong the live of the steel parts.

My big issue however seems to be the transmission/differential piping, as it looks pretty bad. Have any of you changed these before? Is this a job just to get the parts, oil and go for it or do I need an "Aston Specialist" to to the work?

You can find some before/after photo, the rusted pipes and the diagram I've received from an AM dealer.

All your advice is much appreciated!

Charlie

Hi Karesz,
Mine were in a similar state & had them done at the same time as the transaxle was out of the car when my clutch was changed. Through Bamford Rose the cost of the parts was around £180ish. I would have a word with them about the labour.

They do look really bad, surprised at wasn't picked up at service.

I do think that AM dealerships try to get the caars through as quick as possible to maximise profits, I get my DB9 servicing at a specialist, they take there time and do a better job.

Looks like you already have car on ramp so will be an easy at home fix for you.

Needs silencer out to get to all fixings properly
Will need to be run up afterwards to check trans oil level

From start to finish should take you about 5 hrs

The wall thickness of those pipes and low pressure in that line means it's unlikely to blow, that sort of unsightly corrosion on many of the steel components is quite common these days

Thank you guys for all your advice, I will probably go for it and do it as a winter project smile

Mike, is the diagram I have correct? I presume there is a pair of small pipes connects to the big loom? The one goes into the differential? Or is this the full kit I actually need?

Thanks again!

So now as I've spoke the Cardiff Stratstone about getting the parts, the parts manager is trying to convince me that it's only surface rust and I shouldn't be worried... On top of that, they never ordered this part in, means never changed the piping so I couldn't get hold of any useful advice frown

Am I just asking for trouble by trying to replace it or should I just wax it and leave it? The thing is I can't see myself selling the car for a good while...

CONFUSED!

Well, there's your answer. Clean off the surface rust, check for unacceptable pitting that could fail. If there isn't any, then coat them and move on.

My V12V had this as well. Mike advised me exactly how he has you (above). I also had the cross member in a bad state but again Mike said it was a cheap part and we'd do the lot in one hit when the clutch went. So fear not..... (other than why the tray has never come off)
