E34 525td - potential purchase

I have been offered a 1995 E34 525td that my mate is selling because his wife wants a 4x4. The main reason I'm considering it is because his dad bought it new and then after buying a new car, gave it to his son a few years ago. It has a fuel leak (presume pipes?) and potentially something wrong with the turbo. Local garage have said the parts to fix are cheap but there's quite a bit of labour involved.

I quite fancy a project to try to fix and use as a beater/barge. I'm wondering if it's crazy and I'm being blinded by the nostalgia of remembering the car when it was new!

Would you consider it?

Yes, but then again I am quite stupid and shouldn't be trusted. I don't know why but I like the old M51. From the title I'm guessing it's not the tds.
