Tyre question - Pirelli or a Goodyear for a 2.7 981 ?
Discussion
I was surprised to notice than my wife's tyres have worn down in only 11000 miles given that she drives like Miss Daisy!
Anyway, the sizes are:
Rear 265/40/19 98y
Front 235/4019 92y
Pirelli P Zero fitted at the moment. I've checked for tyres on Camskill and notice choice is limited to Pirelli Pzero or Goodyear F1 Asymwtric 2. The Goodyears are a good bit cheaper for the rear.
Reading other threads here I gather the Pirelli PZero N1 compound is the one to go for rather than the N0 compound.
I'm hoping somebody can advise on whether the Goodyears are ok so I can benefit from the saving, or are they to be avoided and stay with Pirelli P Zero, N1 compound ?
Thanks in anticipation.

Mine's a 2014 981 2.7 PDK. I had P Zero N0's all round, the fronts of which split in the treads, and were poor to drive on.
Having had GY F1 A2 on my 2012 TTS and finding them excellent for grip, wet weather, and wear (after 10k miles they'd worn 1-2mm only) I had no qualms about fitting them 10k miles ago all round on the 981. Much better than the Pirelli N0's but I too have heard the N1's are improved.
If you can wait until January the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 is due out in your size. From what I've heard it'll be the "go to" choice and "N" marked.

Thanks for that, I'd have preferred the new Michelin but sadly it can't wait, she needs her car now Having had GY F1 A2 on my 2012 TTS and finding them excellent for grip, wet weather, and wear (after 10k miles they'd worn 1-2mm only) I had no qualms about fitting them 10k miles ago all round on the 981. I'll go with the GY tyre, not impressed at all with the longevity of the Pirelli.
I have tried the following on a few cars so it may not apply!
944 Turbo 250 : PS2s and PS3s
944 S2 : P6000s and KU31s
MkIV Ford Mondeo 2.5T : PS3s, Primacy 3s, Uniroyal Rainsport 3s, Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric 2s & 3s.
E46 M3 : Falken FK452/453 & Michelin Pilot Sport 4s
If you are happy on the Pirellis I'd stick with them TBH. Otherwise go with the GYs.
That said, the Goodyear A2s and 3s are a very good tyre IME. They have a good tyre life, aren't scary when it gets old and are great for all conditions. I almost fitted them to my M3 and given that they were reasonably priced it was a tough decision (1st World problems eh?).
It's early days for me and the PS4s but so far so good. The car has been a little slippy in these conditions but it's still an improvement from the Falkens which surprised me. The PS4s have been quite progressive.

Can't help with the question of which tires. I've only run Pirelli/Michelin tires on my (2002) Boxster. No experience Goodyear tires.Anyway, the sizes are:

But I have to say either your dear wife is lying to you regarding how she drives or the alignment is woefully out. I can get easy 20K miles from the rear tires on my Boxster, even my 996 Turbo, and double that number from the fronts.
A proper alignment is critical to maximizing tire life. At the time new tires are fitted is the best time to have the alignment done.

I have 28000km on my P0's with plenty of trad left to go. The car has had two track days and quite a few spirited mountain drives. It does seem very weird that you have gone through a set so fast. Is your wife the Stig???
Was about to say something similar - my rears had covered 25,000 and my fronts will probably crack and take me out on the M6 before they run out of tread... Thumperson said:

Lads lets just get straight to the pic request - yeah?Anyway I thought the stig was a guy. Where as that German bird who ragged round the ring for a living and was on the old top gear a few times is definitely a female. Maybe he is married to her.
