So I guess I've been fortunate, seven year service and they've told me it needs new tyres (originals still on the car!).

So what's the latest preferred tyre choice? Originals are Bridgestone IIRC, but are there any better ones to consider?
What about the new Michelin Pilot Sport 4, are they out yet for the car?

Do the tyres have to have the AM 9 symbol on them or does that not matter?

Any advice appreciated so I can do my homework before agreeing to an expensive swap during the service!

Cheers.

I run Michelin PSS at the moment and find them the best so far. I've run Corsa's, P-Zeros and Bridgestones.
The PS4 is out mid January and if the PSS is anything to go by, will probably be my next tyre choice.

Looking at the Michelin Pilot SS, I can't see one with AM9 on it - one with XL (reinforced sidewall?) and one with BMW but not one with AM9.

Can you advise which specific Michelin PSS version you picked?

Michelin didn't have OE fitment so you won't find a specific version. They may have similar sizes for the likes of Mercedes which are on the market, though.

You might want to wait a little as Michelin is coming out with a replacement for the PSS over the next few months and Continental is coming out with a competitor to the PSS also

I am currently running the Continental ExtremContact DW 245 in front and 285 rear

+1 PSS

I don't think there's a specific version as it's not OEM.

Re the PSS you can get a 'K' which is Ferrari spec (less 'wobbly' tyre tread depth too I thinkeek) or you can get the 'N' which is Porsche spec. I went with 'N'. Had to have an XL on the front as they didnt do the non XL version in my 20" size. No issues. Far better than the AMR Aston spec Bridgestones in my view - like loads better!

Thanks for the advice everybody, the tyres can wait until spring so I'll be looking at the Michelins and take it from there.

Appreciate your time and effort beer

Bridgestones for me; not had any reason/incident whatsoever to consider changing. Same on the 996 Turbo before the Vantage.

Must say, that I havnt tried the Michelin option, have had OE Bridgestone for 10 years and not had circumstance to think "these are poor, must change them"

Maybe I will try a set of Michelin one day and be a convert ....

I find them next to useless in wet/damp conditions. Far too easy to break away.

Are you referring to the Michelins or the Bridgestones?

I have just slipped on a set of Falken 453's getting the front sise right made me up one sise to 245 on the front.
Warm climate here done 5000Km and Im happy, feedback is good and low noise, the price was much cheaper than any other Brand, before i get crucified let me just say I appreciate its an expensive car and we should not skimp on tyres, but Falken has a respected racing team and I just enjpy value for money
....besides at such a cheap price i can still enjoy them when i get on the load pedal

Used to put Falken 452's on the (rapid) DD - good tyre; great value. Comparative reviews abound I'm sure.

Put rear PSS on it last time. No real improvement over Eagle F1's - other than they both punctured and were written off in 9 months. Unprecedented.

PSS on and Bridgestone's off on the Rapide was quite a staggering upgrade.

Unfortunately not. It's quite embarrassing to slide out of wet junctions when you least expect it. They're great in dry/moderate temperature conditions but that's about it.

I've used Falken 452 & 453 tyres on a number of other heavy, powerful cars and found them to be excellent - although they do drop off quite markedly around the 3-4mm remaining tread depth level.

I think the PSS will be the next option for me.
