Our local Texaco has been refurbed and is now a CO-OP site, surprised to find they no longer sell super-unleaded.
All new pumps that have just two fillers either unleaded or diesel.

Presumably not selling enough of the stuff to make it worth stocking.

Most places do have it, don't they? I'm sure just one pump wouldn't kill them.

It's not the pump, it's the bloody great tank they need underground to store it.

And no, most stations (at least around here) do not have super unleaded. I'd say probably a quarter do.

Clearly they disagree.

Margins on fuel alone are tiny. If a pump isn't bringing in the dollar they're obviously going to shut it down.

1 pump means 1 more tank and all the hassle that goes with it. If it's not selling then why bother.

Well they had super prior to the changeover, so presumably the tank must still be there. Which is why I find it a bit strange. I'm sure most garages around this way have super too, the problem being they aren't that local.

The average motorist just wants to run their car as cheaply as possible.

That means boggo unleaded and ditchfinder tyres, sadly.

A fairly common reason for a garage to go through a major refurb is leaking tanks. It's possible they needed sorting out and they decided to only bother to do two of them.

It's no wonder they aren't selling super if people are attempting to pay for it with left over holiday currency.

I often find that Shell stations outside London are a bit hit & miss with V power diesel.

If they didn't renew the tanks when they did the refit they will just have used it for the standard fuel I guess.

As others have said. It's all about income, it's why petrol stations are 'Supermarkets" these days!

The 97 RON type is avoided by most enthusiasts I would imagine anyway, they'll seek out Tesco 99 or Shell V-Power, so no loss.

I do wonder how much they sell - I've heard (but might be internet bks) Shell stations can go months between refills of V-Power.

We've no choice here in NI. The highest rated fuel is 97RON. To get higher than that for our previous 370z GT, we used to add an octane booster.

No, you misunderstood, the problem is that they only accept payment for it in USD.

That's strange? Our local Texaco/CO-OP has also just been refurbished and now has four types of fuel to choose from.It has both 95 and 97 unleaded AND Diesel supreme and normal Diesel.

I remember many moons ago in one of the car magazines, might have been Evo or Performance Car, they did a fuel test and the 1 golden rule seemed to be fresh fuel was best regardless of octane rating. The conclusion was simply to use a busy petrol station.

They tested a few performance cars but I think it was the BMW M5 that kept the same bhp no matter the fuel due to a clever ECU.

Its popular at my new local Shell, every day I see folk putting it in their std cars and when questioned they haven't a clue.

they probably got rid of it because of the person who owned a £1000 car that does 40mpg wanted to 'save' money on fuel so they decided to spend £10,000 for a brand new car that does a claimed 60mpg but in actual fact is more like 45mpg with their driving style and the regular unleaded is 1p cheaper.....while still being 5p more expensive then the Shell that's probably half a mile up the road but still on their route to/from work.
