Had our 4 month old Lakeland terrier over to the vets this afternoon, he became really poorly an hour after his walk, shaking and lethargic, then throwing st up.

After a quick google I was convinced the dog was going to die from stomach blockage, he has a track record, last week had its stomach pumped after eating a sock, he's eaten most of the Christmas decorations but also won't turn down the chance of a free turd in the hedge bottom.

So thought I'd better get him checked out properly and luckily he threw another sample up in the vets who confirmed he had eaten a good dollop.

Anyway he spent the rest of this afternoon looking like he was at deaths door until an hour ago when he got caught in the bin, so gave him a bit of dinner and seems back to normal now, so we're all relieved.

Maybe this will put him off eating poo, but probably won't,
Don't know what he eat today as I didn't see him do it, but what ever it was made him I'll pretty quickly, apparently this is quite a common occurance.

Your post is just as useful.

Just why? I mean why bother? I don't see you saying anything nice and I didn't say anything bad.

Pointless OP, and now pointlesss 3 posts after.

Sadly some will just eat anything in sight. One of ours is allergic to wheat, not the end of the world when they are raw fed - but she tries (and succeeds) in nicking bread now and then. Which then makes her itch and scratch lumps of fur out. Does she learn? Does she hell.

You just have to keep an eye on that one!

There's loads of foxes and badgers all round us so I am always carefull with this dog as he'll go to ground given half a chance.
I don't know who's crap he eat this time as I never saw him do it
He' s a proper rascal this one but is a real comedian which just about evens up the naughty behaviour, typical terrier ownership

Some good replys so far, although I don't understand the first one , ??

I've never had a dog but do they literally have no sense of taste?

I'm confused why something with a sense of smell 100x greater than mine would want to go within 1000 yards of something else's st let alone eat it confused

I don't think dogs have any sense of disgust.
I was always impressed by the ability of my GSD (long gone and much missed) to find a stick I'd thrown into the woods. I'd pick up a new stick, hold it for no more than a couple of seconds, and throw it through the trees so it would get 'lost'. He would use his nose to track the correct stick every time.
So why in the name of god did he need to press his nose against another dog's turd? Surely he could sniff it from a few feet away and know all he needed to know.

As a puppy he tried eating his own, but stopped when I told him off. Then he tried eating another dog's mess, but after I said 'no' he didn't do it again. The first time he encountered horse poo, same thing. Then cow dung. Then goose droppings. Basically he tried every type of st he could find, presumably hoping he could find one I'd let him eat.

Parents had a Spaniel that used to have a rummage in the cat litter tray and then gobble up any turds he found in there. Our Border Terrier carefully inspects cow pats and tests the liquid in the top for taste. Only fresh ones though, he's quite particular.

I always thought dogs ate stuff that contained something that they were lacking?

That's the excuse I used to give my Westie smile

Dogs are poor judges of what us good and bad for them, all you can do is be extremely vigilant, your pup was lucky to survive the sock incident, they do not learn and we do get repeat offenders.

Glad he is feeling better now.

Charming maturity there. It's not like I suggested something about your mother is it?

Neither has any one else. Your initial reply is the immature one tbh.

I'd be interested to know why my bedlington terrier likes nibbling on a cats eggs rolled in kitty litter.

It's almost as vile as fox flavour... Yuk!

Sorry to read OP, I hope he ends up ok.

My dog has a messed up paw just now after some glass got in one f his pads. I need to keep my eyes on him 24/7 to make sure he doesn't eat the bandage.

Have you tried a lampshade collar to stop him having access to stuff? My dog wouldn't be able to eat 1 decoration or sock let alone "all the decorations "

Hope all ends up well regardless
