The cage was a free option on the last car I think as in CS spec. If you don't need the space makes send to have it?
Yes, that was my point - it wouldn't have cost me any extra. It was only 'free' if you ere already paying for the buckets!

But:
a) access to the rear (for luggage / touring) was essential for me
b) I think a cage on a road car is a bit 'racer wannabe' !

I agree but then the wing is even more visible and 'racer wannabe' ! wink

If you need the space then thats for enough but I'd go the full hog!

In some ways I am happy that the 991.2 GT3 with either box will evidently come with the 'proper' GT3 traditional rear aero and actually prefer it to the de winged R.

The GT4 is pretty with a slightly understated rear wing....but the 991/2 was/is prettier with slightly more aero whereas the RS wing is a touch over the top particularly for road/supermarket use. biggrin:

Yes, the GT3 is the sweetspot undoubtedly.

I saw some pics the other day if a GTS RS with a ducktail type wing on it...really not sure about it. Will see if I can find them.

I'm not sure either. It still looks pretty pumped . Might look better in say GT silver.
I thought these things were finely tuned in a wind tunnel?

Never going to look great that - all they've done is take the rear wing off the RS (just held on with a few bolts) - I assume a proper designed rear minus wing would look much better smile

this is what I wanted to do if I ever bought either a 997.2 RS or a 991 RS. No stickers and maybe a less in your face colour choice.

With regards to the wind tunnel .... I don't think it will make a difference at the speeds I intend to do with the car sans wing - which is basically driving up and down mountains in the Alps

Bit more info in Autocar. New engine will be 4.0 ltr with at least 500 BHP. Though not the current RS engine. Plus there will be a new GT4 with 430 BHP which will arrive after the GT2RS which will have 650BHP.

On the opening question... PDK or not to PDK, that IS the question.

I've always thought if / when / fingers crossed my name comes up I'd definitely tick the manual box. However, been mulling it over for some time now and actually I don't think I would. The PDK in the current car is soooo good I think it presents it's own thrills that both complement the car and actually add's to the driving experience. To that end, if my name didnt come up I think I'd wait, see what happens to the gen 1 market (see if there is a bit of a dip with the new car arriving) and be more than happy to step in to one of those.

If you don't want a manual the plus side of the gen 1 cars is that engine and the 9K limit. If as the popular press is saying the new lump will be a 4.0 it wont have the crazy last 500 rpm.

Now... White orrr black??? or Silver - doh!

I still think a 3.8 at just under 500bhp makes more sense for Porsche as it keeps a distance from the 911R which will remain the halo model for the manual 991. A 4.0 991.2 manual GT3 would surely upset those sitting on their massive overs with the 911R and Porsche wouldn't want to ps off their most favoured customers who were chosen to receive the latest shiny bauble.

Interesting that Autocar thinks the new GT3 engine won't be a slightly detuned version of the RS 4.0 (which seems the obvious choice), especially after the issues with the first batch of cars as the current engines appear to have been sorted.

In that case, wondering if this 'new' engine will rev to 9k like the 991.1 GT3.

A GT4 with 430bhp sounds ok....but this may well just be a detuned Carrera powerkit/GTS engine, but hopefully not.

The GT2RS will probably arrive this year and nearer to 700bhp.

I am meant to be on for one but reckon it will be as rare as the 997 GT3 RS 4.0 and 'first run' of 911 R i.e. c28 ish cars! That equates to 0.8 cars per OPC.....confused

Although in the real world there won't be much in it......493bhp 4.0 8800 rpm R v 500bhp slightly heavier 3.8 9000rpm?? 991.2 GT3.

It's going to be 4.0 i'm almost certain with hp just under 500PS. 475 PS from the 3.8 in the 991 gt3 has already seemed to be very very tricky for Porsche to make reliable as that engine has undergone a huge amount of tweaks with all the engine replacements that have gone on. They aren't going to try and squeeze much more hp per litre imo.

All the R customers mostly claim their R are keepers after all so even if the overs come down it only hurts the flippers that Porsche say they want to clamp down anyway... so two birds with one stone! wink

Anyone convinced by this? Or is it still speculation until Geneva?

The most speculative part is the GT4RS.

They're not all keepers! Even someone will proper wealth won't turn their nose up at say £350,000 clear non taxable profit!
There's a 911R at Swindon Dick Lovett with 500 miles in GT silver for £575000 sitting in the showroom.
