Hi everyone,

My 430D is due its first service (oil) in 1200 miles, do people have a rough idea of how much it will be at a main dealer? Have also been reading that a few people have took their own oil to save paying the mark up on BMW's hoping my local dealer will be okay with this. My old 650i had a £799 service from BMW last time so hope its not going to anywhere even close to that!

Many Thanks

Jack

Ring a dealer? https://www.bmw-service.co.uk/ Doesn't seem to work for newer cars.

My 430d is due it's first oil change.
What actually needs to be done on the service? I didn't get an owner's book. Which oil / filter should I use?

The lease company have agreed to let me use a local independent garage, but I need to supply my own original manufacturer recommended materials.

Maintenance normally included with a lease?

Not unless you pay for a maintained lease.

When I took my F31 330D in for its first service I asked how much it would be and they said they couldn't find my car on the database (I had bought it from the same dealership) but it would be £180 and they wrote it on a compliment slip. When I went to pay after the service had been done they said it was £340, so when I produced the compliment slip they agreed to honour that quote. I asked why it was so much and they said "the oil is very expensive". I laughed. Anyway, the answer, as always, is "whatever they can get away with"

Oil should be any LL04 approved oil.

I've bought some oil and just waiting on my local garage to see if they have access to the electronic service book on the car. I would have thought this would be accessible to any garage, but perhaps BMW are trying to lock customers in?

My car is 200 miles over it's first service (12,200). Is this a problem? Is there a time limit to comply with the warranty? i can't find anything in the documentation...

UPDATE:
Rang Stratstone Derby who quote £186.68 if I included my own oil, and almost £300 if I didn't. Service pack is now £399 for 3 years / 36k miles, another thing to consider.

Sytner Tamworth quoted £153.06 if I supplied my own oil.

Stratstone said the microfilter on my "large car" was £100+VAT and was the main reason the quote was so high. I'm waiting for my independent garage to get back to me.
Also said the service must be within 1000 miles of the recommended interval or would invalidate warranty. Hopefully some of you guys find this information useful.

if you go onto the BMW website
Select service
Then you can select the section which gives you a menu pricing for he vehicle - you input he car and miles. Tick whatever is needed as per the CBS idrive. It tells you the £.

You can tick the lot if you wish to see the price.

However honestly you really should have got the £399 service pack no brainer option IMHO.

Never have I read so much about servicing a new car. Well, and oil and filter change.

Exactly - OP buys a what £43k car + and then is concerned about servicing cost of an oil change even considering trying to save a few pennies in taking oil in. If things are that bad please buy a 3 year old car instead.

Clearly you didn't read the bit about it being a lease car then.

In spite of that, I too have a lease car & have just had it serviced mid-term, to save any confusion/penalty issue et.

I just took it to my closest main dealer & got them to service it, no brainer for me, whouldn't want to entertain anything else just in case personally.

Why would you give away money freely? If you could service your car at half the price, the one paying double for "convenience" is surely the idiot?

It doesnt matter how much you earn. Getting ripped off is universal. I'd rather have a couple hundred quid than BMW. I work as a professional buyer in IT/technology, so yes every pound does count. Must be my nature...

Thanks for advice.

OP does seem to have been running around trying to save at best £40?

Still, £40 is £40.

Completely agree with silent ninja why would you not try and save money? Regardless of what car you drive its more in your pocket instead of the dealers? Makes common sense to me.

Cars booked in for its first service with my local bm dealer on the 17th as it was the first date with a hire car available! I wonder what I'll get....
