Good luck with that strategy. Are you also hoping it comes fitted with a Mezger, Hydraulic steering, cable handbrake, no RWS, limited digital interference... as it is more than just a stick shift that draws people to the 997.
I'm not sure about that. The mags will gush over the manual as the return of the messiah in the gt3. That'll be enough to draw most of the potential buyers to the car as more people just want a manual than the analogue nature of the car (which they likely simply equate with a manual box anyway). The number of people who will actually care about the analogue nature of the 997 will not imo be enough to make up for the rush to the new car, especially as quite a few will have done well on the 7 in the last few years to boot.

Thanks for all your tips and eagle-eyed spots, but I'm going to wait a few months. With the announcements in Autocar and Evo that the 991.2 GT3 will be available with a manual 6-speed, I'm going to gamble on a slight market correction and the possibility of a 997.1 falling down through my £70k budget threshold by the summer...

"Strategy" = your word. "Gamble" = my word.

I fully understand your point (and I drive a 997.2 non-GT for 4/5 reasons you gave) but my gamble is based on the speculative, flipper "cats" getting distracted by the latest thing and allowing us "mice" to play again.

I sincerely hope it pans out as you intend, it would be great to see these wonderful cars actually get driven again. And as the post above states, there may only be a small minority that see the 997GT3 vs 991.2GT3 as a little more than just a gearknob and polish that separates them.

I agree there will be big demand for a new manual 991.2 GT3 from existing GT3 owners and those who want a new GT3 and not a 10 year old 'old' GT3.

This and the uncertainty in the UK economy (Brexit, inflation, higher cost of living, job securirty etc) may persued some to cash-in on the uplift they've seen on their 996 and 997 GT3's.

Let me get this right - I feel uncertain about my job, I feel uncertain about the economy, I feel uncertain about house prices, so I will sell my 996.1 CS to sink another £60-£80k into a car? Something does not add up here...

I have to agree with CLR. I had options to buy a 964RS at £40K, GT3 mk 1 clubsport at £35K and 996GT3RS at £55K. Each time I gambled they would come down and each time I lost! weeping

You misunderstood me. I see a few different things happening.

1) More demand for a new GT3 (for those who can afford) meansmore 996 and 997 GT3 hitting the market (increasing supply).

2) The economy reducing the number of buyers as people are more cautious.

3) Some GT3 owners cashing in to benefit from the rise.

May not happen but far more chance than a rise. I certainly wouldn't rush out to buy for fear of a rise.
