Follow the stream of bikes from April ..Some really nice roads to enjoy all around the north of Derbyshire as a newbie, the heavily enforced 50MPH limits and large volume of tourist traffic in the Summer months make it frustrating if you want to go for a hoon thou. IMHO

Indeed, and be prepared to be stopped on the approach road to Matlock with a view to 'nicking' you for non-conforming exhausts, no. plates etc.

Best routes I have found are off the A roads great route from Winckle to Longnor to Monyash
There are some good routes on the Ride website

Really worth exploring as there is a lot more to see than Matlock

Depending on whereabouts you are in Derbyshire....assuming you are, of course....you might be far better off straying over the border into north Notts and thence into Lincs. Far fewer pointless speed limits, plenty of cracking roads, much less traffic, and lots of tea stops. I live in Derbyshire, and I make a point of never riding here other than when departing for other places!

You have the entire peak district on your doorstep.

Matlock, Bakewell, Castleton, Buxton, Leek, Chatsworth house, snake road, woodhead pass - all destinations to avoid (except for lunch), but if you aim for them and then just randomly turn off and go and get lost it's great fun. If you are properly lost, and a bit scared, you just follow a signpost, or ask someone, back to one of them.

If in doubt, tag onto a back of a group as someone has said - but do your own thing

Enough petrol stations to not cause any bother - just top up around the 100mile mark.

Highly policed however.

Get off the beaten track and find some meandering back roads; last time I was in Stoke the M6 was a nightmare and the A50 was closed so I asked the satnav for 'shortest route' to Bakewell and it took me up/down some hilarious lanes, I was in the van but would have been p155ing myself on the bike biggrin

So you're no stranger to the fixed speed camera...
