Me and my other half were planning to have children in the next year or so being a car nerd I was eying up potential cars for my other half.

She currently has 2006 Mercedes SL350 so it's not viable for mum duties. I use a 2003 E320 CDI as my day to day car. I have a daughter from a past relationship so I use the E as a bit of a dad tank. I use that for picking up my daughter as it's a 260 mile round trip.

So the other half should have a budget of about £12k and really likes the feel of her SL and I suggested a C-Class as a consideration.

I just wondered if anyone uses a C as their family car and how spacious it is? I don't think she likes the idea of an E-Class as they're 'a bit too big' but I find my E ideal but appreciate it's not a small car.

My 204 saloon is "OK" at best. We have a family of 4. 3 Adults and 1 teen and we fit in fine. Leg space can be a bit cramped at the back as I am 6'2 but for carrying kids I think it's great.

Get her pregnant first, then worry about the car. Buying cars is easy......

Sadly an estate car will be a no go. I love a smart estate car but she hates them. I used my E Class last year for a family holiday with three adults and my daughter. Everything fitted in that perfectly although I'm 6'1 and had to raise my seat a little as I usually have it as low as possible. Otherwise it wasn't too compromised.

Sounds like for kids in the back and adults up front the C Class would be roomy enough. I'll keep in mind about the boot though as obviously that has to be considered.

You haven't met my Mrs mate haha. Obviously I'm a car nerd hence I'm on here but I went through so many cars before the SL350 she's got now really got her enthused.

When she was hunting for that I showed her a C Class coupe and a four door, she was adamant they look completely different.
