Looking at buying a 2013 Touareg R Line - any tips?
Discussion
I had a '63 plate Touareg R-Line on lease for 18 months, cracking car. One of the best I've had.
Firstly, make sure you go for the higher powered 3L diesel. The 204PS engine is adequate, but a little breathless at speed.
The 242PS unit is much quicker and torquier with no detriment to fuel economy. I used to average about 30mpg around town, which is remarkable given the size of the vehicle.
Given my time again I'd find one with the air suspension, too. The standard set up is decent, but rear passengers really do get bumped about (especially in R-Line spec as you'll be riding on 20's)! It's not uncomfortable, but might have gotten tiresome if you travel on crappy surfaces on a regular basis.
Speaking of wheels, the 20" 'Tarragona' wheels look great, but they're diamond turned at the face and therefore mark easily. Again, if you spend any amount of time in the country, I'd go for the 'standard' 20" non-diamond turned wheels - they'll stay looking much better.
My car had a faulty Discover Pro Nav unit replaced under warranty. The Bluetooth cut out a few times and then the screen begun to freeze.
Wan't a big issue for me as it got replaced under warranty, but the invoice I got showed a price of nearly four grand for the work, so I wouldn't have wanted to pay that out of my own pocket. Have a good play with any that you view and ask to link your phone up, too.
Aside from that, I really can't think of any reason not to take the plunge. I'd have another in a heartbeat.
All the best.
