Hi folks.

Just bought a 2000 986 S Manual.

The airbag sensor/control module was faulty. I was getting a permanent airbag light on. "Airbagman" confirmed the unit was faulty.

Just put a new (second hand good) unit in, cleared the faults and the light goes out, but then comes back up with "0072 Child seat detected". I cant find this code online anywhere.

Any thoughts? I was wondering if the car the module came from had the deactivation kit in?

Appreciate if anyone can help with suggestions!

Yes, it sounds like you need to get the coding for the child seat removed. Easy to do with a Porsche tester. The diagnostic sheet confirms this:

Fault codes 70, 71, 72, 73
Child seat detection
Diagnostic conditions
• Ignition on
Possible cause of fault
♦ Incorrect coding
♦ Plug connection of child seat detection belt buckle not connected or damaged
♦ Short circuit to B+/ground or open circuit in the wiring between the airbag triggering unit and the child seat detection belt buckle
♦ Child seat detection belt buckle faulty

Great, many thanks. Taking to a specialist on Friday next week so hoping they can decode that.
