Morning
Looking for some advice on this.
My sisters l405 (2016 about 8k miles I think) has developed a number of faults that the local dealer is struggling to rectify:
- vibrating / resonating brakes
- DVD player in front failing
- start stop button flickering / failing to illuminate
- add blue warning keeps coming on

Local service centre have been helpful but don't seem to be able to resolve. Have contacted lr uk who have asked her to take it back to the. Service centre (6 or 7th time and each time she gets a Toyota igo for a week - not ideal with 3 young kids)

Any of these known faults or has she just been unlucky?

You might get more answers over at www.fullfatrr.com. I'm also over there and it is a bit more active.

None of those faults seem common.

Hi,

In reference to the faults you have,

1. Brakes - hard to say in all honesty. Should be straight forward to identify if the fault can be demonstrated at the retailer? Not impossible to have warped a disc but really guessing.

2. DVD player -bit more description req'd here. Exactly what happens, when it happens etc etc. There have been a few gen 2.1 updates released but targeting quite specific failure modes.

3. Start/stop sw flickering - Very strange. Never come across this on any of the models and they all essentially use the same strategy. Again try and supply a. It more info about how and when etc..

4. AdBlue - I assume you are getting 'xxx miles to non start' messages and not just level low? If it's the former then it's highly likely it will need a PCM cal update.

If you can supply more info on the other faults I'll see if I can help

Kind regards

Joe

additional info:

Brakes - so far as I can gather they were initially making a squealing noise at low speed / coming to a stop. Went in for repair and now makes a metallic resonating sound, again when coming to a stop. In a sense, this is the least concerning as it is an old fashioned mechanical issue that I am sure the service centre will sort eventually

Dvd - rear ones work fine. Front one will sometimes play, other times just shows black screen when supposed to be playing.

Stop start button. This one was really odd. Last time I was in the car it didn't illuminate at all the after about 15 minutes started flickering on and off for a minute or two then stayed off. Came on when reached duel carriageway if that is significant?

Add blue - I can't remember exact message but it's something like xxxxx reservoir low, plus yellow ! Came on October last year and was reset by dealer on one of its many visits to the service centre. She does less than 1k / month. Mixture of dc and city driving.

On final thing I forgot to mention, when she presses the stop button it kills the engine but sometimes the dash stays on. Has to press stop start button again to switch the dash off (not explaining this very well but when the dash stays on it looks and sounds they way it would if you initially tried to start the car without foot on brake)

It has been in for a couple of software updates but doesn't seem to have helped.

Apologies for the vague replies. My information source is not the most technically minded.

Feel a bit sorry for her. Not huge issues but has taken the shine off her new car.

Many thanks for your time looking at this.

If your sister's only getting an Aygo thingy then she needs to get stroppy with the dealer. I have the same Range Rover and have had a couple of 'issues' recently. I was offered a Jag F Pace which was OK but I insisted on a like for like Range Rover and ended up with their demo car for a week.

Being inconvenienced like that with a courtesy car that is unsuitable is out of order and it's a shame that they've been allowed to get away with it. This is the problem with Land Rover, many of their dealers but not all are just hopeless.

Which is exactly how I came to buy my old RR Sport from a dealer 160 miles away from home

Good luck OP

Hi,

In response then,

1. Brakes - as you say shouldn't be much of an issue, and I'm sure this wi be an easy fix when it's demonstrated.

2. DVD - do you have dual view? If you only have single view then invisibly the front screen will stop displaying the DVD and when in motion. With the dual view the image comes from the IAM (the disc player) to the front screen, then onto the rear seat module in the boot. First thing would be to check the cvbs connections at the rse module and the screen, may well need 're-seating'.

3. Again very strange but most likely it's an earth connection issue to the switch, or the switch itself. Not come across any switch concerns so may look down the earth path first.

4. Addblue- if it's simply saying low then it's most likely low. One or two times I've seen this in ultra cold climates (down to 20 below) where the fluid freezes but I suspect this is not your concern!

I hope some of this may be useful
