Gear-lever cables were replaced after they snapped at a Porsche Indy garage less than 100 miles ago, yet when i pulled it of my garage today 1st into 2nd gear then nothing, surely they can't have snapped so quickly again! This is my 1st Porsche, cayman btw & anybody else had this sort of thing happen to them?

Seems highly unlikely they'd have snapped again so quickly (especially if your Indy fitted the upgraded parts from the 981 that Porsche would recommend if you phoned them with the cable part number that should prevent them snapping again - assuming you're in a 987). It seems more likely that one of the gear linkage cables has popped out of the mount that attaches it to the gear level assembly. Either way, I've venture your Indy should fix that free of charge!

Cheers John, it is a 987 and will be taking to the garage tomorrow, luckily it broke in 2nd gear & haven't got that far drive, but not very confidence inspiring! Hope it is a quick fix as with its service, oil seperater & cable snap it's spent more time at the Indy garage than mine!

Indicative of another problem if they snapped recently and have now popped off.

Maybe a worn engine mount..

My 987 boxsters gear cables snapped twice. First around 10k second around 20k, I had the car from new and never really drove it hard. I'm sure they have revised the direction the two cables run.
