Inspire me.

£6-8k, simply has to get me 10 miles on B roads twice a day and be fun and fast, preferably with a rag top, with reasonable running costs.

986 Boxster S is the obvious choice, there's a supercharged Mk 1 MX5 in Wales that sounds fun.

What would you get?

Unless it has to be RWD then I'd grab a Clio.

Definitely RWD, I can see the appeal of the clio but half the fun of going round a track for me is hanging the back end out on occasion...

I've not driven an S2000, I shall have to have a go. I'm not sure about the power delivery though as I believe you have to rev the hell out of it to make the most of it? Fine on track but I might feel like a bit of a tit on the road.

That MR2 looks like it should be fun, shame it's all the way up north, but good shout. I've not driven one of those either, will have to search some out more locally. A fresh Jap import should be good...

I've always fancied something supercharged ever since watching Mad Max as a kid, so could modify something solid.

A few VX220s fall in budget too, prices seem to vary hugely though, not sure if a cheap one would be a good buy...

The S2000 has enough torque for day to day driving but has the added bonus of a manic top end for example the MX5 has 160 bhp 130lbft the S2000 240bhp 164lbft they're similar on weight too so I'd say test drive one.

Or a leftfield choice would be the RX-8 R3 they're more reliable than the forums suggest but yes they drink a bit of fuel but down a B Road you'll have fun just look after it & you'll be okay.

I must admit, it does sound like proper hot hatch territory so for me I'd consider the RS Clio 200 but if it's top down motoring you really want then the S2000 would get my vote. smile

My Mini Cooper S Works Convertible (that happens to be for sale!).

Soft top, supercharged & fun.

Obviously not RWD but would tick a few of your boxes.

I ran a Chimaera as my daily for a few years and loved every minute of it, I could be tempted by a wedge...

Not sure if I might want a few more creature comforts these days, and air bags...

I'd be tempted by a 350Z, probably a coupe.

Always been impulsive, just spotted a local S200 up for auction on ebay, and won...
03 76K No recent service history (gulp) and a few dings that I don't care about but I'm hoping it is worth the £5576 I bid... with the money leftover can sort out any niggles.

Anything particular to S2000s I should be looking for?

The S2000 in question tuned out not to be very good...

Probably worth the money but think a Boxster is currently better value.
