Hello all, looking for some advice regarding placing a new car order from an OPC

I've been working on a spec for a carrera and have something i'm happy with. My research on the forums to date tells me that 'discount' is something of a dirty word in an OPC, but that savings of list can be achieved through a deal on the price of options or 'support' towards a deposit.

What's an achievable/realistic % saving off list at the moment, if buying through porsche finance?

If anyone has a recommended dealer/contact for achieving the best deal i'd appreciate some advice or a PM

much appreciated

Depends on three things

- Which model you are going for and what their allocation is like i.e. next build slot
- How much spec you are putting on it
- Are you taking finance

I think it's very unlikely to be honest but if it's a decent spec car and they have build slots in the next quarter or so and you are taking finance you might get £1k or £2k ? No finance and I doubt you get anything.

Porsche GB or AG seem to play games with the OPC's so they don't know what their allocations are like more than three to six months in advance ( I believe there is an element of build slots having a correlation to prior quarter's sales including used cars)....and even if they do they can change. Last I heard there had been a lot of delays for cars being delivered in Q1 as they were doing some refurb work to one of the factories which had resulted in production delays and OPC's having less build slots than anticipated.

Thanks Cheib

looking at C2 or maybe C2S

Options around the 10K mark including the PDK, and yes looking to buy via porsche finance

Initial approaches to a few OPCs are that build slots are available for a May build

You need to go and see them and be ready to put a deposit down there and then....you won't get a deal unless you're in the showroom generally.

You are more likely to get a discount if you can find a showroom car which has been sitting for a couple of months and its has or is near the spec you are looking for and you are ready to buy there and then. At the end of the month or even better the sales quarter is a good time to buy also and definitely taking the finance helps. If you have a friendly dealer they will also check the national database of cars available if they don't have something in stock and again if its a car within its group it helps. Sometimes they also can pickup cancelled orders quickly. I know it is a compromise but this has worked for me on three of the five occasions I have bought from Porsche. The best discount I achieved was on a Cayman S where I got £7K discount on a £57K car on New Years Eve. Your are less likely to get a discount on a build to order car with say a 5 month wait. Best of luck.

Thanks for the advice gents, which is consistent with what i'd picked up from browsing this and various other forums

Does the month/quarter end tactic work when there are limited build slots? - or is this a dealer strategy to maximise their return?

I went to a reasonably close OPC and had a fairly candid discussion about price - was immediately offered about 2% off which matched the coast2coast broker's price (without me mentioning it, and this broker seems to offer a better discount than autoebid?)

I offered to place a deposit immediately for a bigger 'discount' achieved through the price of options or deposit contribution buying through finance but didn't get me any further so walked. Had already been offered a minimally better deal over the phone from a distant OPC, but still short of what I need to achieve to commit - I'm ready to buy but my rational self knows there must be a better deal out there.....

just to add I've asked about stock cars but most seem to be ridiculously over-optioned and in colours i'm not interested in (black/white/silver)

Buy exactly what you want and go and enjoy your new Porsche. I still do not get the whole must get a £50 deal off the car I am buying thing and a tank of gas thrown in. I guess being into how shall we say more classic Porsche's there is no such thing as MSRP. You either perceive the deal as acceptable or you walk away. The last Porsche I bought was exactly the spec I was looking for. I might have paid way over the odds or got a steel. Only time will tell. You only live once.

I'd be interested to see how you get on having recently put my 991.2 order in. I was expecting an autumn build slot but got phoned up a couple of days later and offered a slot for the end of April/early May as someone else withdrew from their order. I didn't gun for a discount but got offered a decent trade in price.

I was offered 2% fairly quickly by one dealer when I was looking to order my new Carrera in late autumn, but yes sounds like various factors might be at play because I think decent discount is usually hard to get. Good luck and enjoy - I love mine. Went for graphite blue with the matching two tone interior, and despite initial concerns when I ordered, the optioned glass sunroof looks ace.. Yowzer. Off for a spin.

Hi, your car sounds like it looks great. Have you any photos you can post? I'm interested as I am struggling with what colour to choose and GB is a little 'different' the blend of grey and blue sound good but the configurator does it no favours. Pic of the inside would be good to see too.

Hi, happy to help...the only ones I have so far are in the showroom (where the lights give it a lovely but false impression of the colour) so I'll take some this afternoon and send (not been washed for a few days but fairly clean! A few videos on Youtube give a good impression too. Have a look on here from about mid-afternoon, will sort for you happily)

Thanks very much, it looks really nice - bet you are pleased with it. Amazing colour that looks different depending on lighting.

The Blue/Crayon interior is lovely too - but I'm looking at getting a GTS so I may go for the Silver GTS Interior if I choose GB.

Great car. Graphite blue seems like a really interesting colour, it looks very different between various pictures and videos online - does it really change that much with the light conditions, or is it just the way it photographs? Oh and did you go with the darker tint on the rear window to go with the sunroof, or leave standard?

I've had a Graphite blue Boxster S on loan...that picture of the 911 outside is a pretty good representation of it I reckon.

I believe that I had a good rapport with a local OPC for over a year when I was wanting a Cayman GT4, however not able getting a reservation and the news of the next Cayman being 4 cylinders and the Cayman GTS could be two years away and the fact the 2nd market for GT4's were selling for over £100K I decided to go for a 911.2 4S.

I configured my spec based on my budget and negotiated a price with the local OPC, to the point they would not drop any further 2.5% discount, I then contacted another relatively local OPC and played the two dealerships against each other to get best discount (differing franchise). I managed to increase the discount with my local OPC a further 2.5 % to which I was happy with and paid my deposit (back in March last year) I also informed the OPC that I wanted delivery not until September. A allocation came through and I took delivery in October last year. (The discount on the car was based list price and not via any finance deals). I Also think it is important on making an offer for a new car based on the near end of the OPC sales quarter to ensure they make their sales targets.

FYI - I was told by my OPC that Porsche are threatening dealerships penalties in offering discounts! I went to another relatively local OPC and asked about discounts and I received a pompous reply saying “why would we offer a discount on a 911.1 CS4!” I promptly walked out. A few days I later I got a phone call from their Sales Manager regarding my recent visit and my interest in a C4S, however I informed him that they had lost the sale and I have gone elsewhere!

So I got 5% off the total price including 15.5K of optional extras.

Now a very happy 911.2 CS4 owner with a near GTS spec'd car! (if you exclude the -0.5 sec 0-62 mph). With the money saved I got the car fully detailed by a professional detailer and treated with Xpel Ultimate film bumper to bumper! Also I asked the OPC not to fix the front number plate bezel and applied a self adhesive number plate instead after the film had been applied.
