Just curious (and apologies for going O/T), but why would you not wear a Hans on a track day if you already had one?

No track days are not for getting to the edge , no one should ever "go off" on one as there are generally other people around that may not want that risk factor .........crashing is part of racing , so different when pushing on a bit

So, Manual or PDK-S ??? That is the question smile
How did you find the PDK-S in your GT3 RS?
I think PDK-S is extremely good and adds a different dimension to the experience - but I will hopefully be choosing manual in the .2 GT3 - as I am keen to experience this mental engine and chassis with a manual box. I think it will feel more special more of the time. If not, then I may have to go back to a 996 GT3 one day - as there is something very special about the older/ hardcore feeling you get with the Mezger, especially with a K400 upgrade smile

Not so sure that will be true ......

Agree if you are serious buyer with a little OP history , if you want you will get one ... it is not an RS or R ....... hence not limited ...in the past GT3 were never limited and numbers were reduced as only x number of us bought them ....

Agree ref RS / R ... but the same statement was made about the GT4 but that didn't result in everyone getting a car . Admittedly there was a lot more cars eventually delivered than originally being talked about , but a number of deposits were still returned.

I've no axe to grind either way , but suspect successful allocation figures akin to GT4 is probably as good as it will get . How high did we think that got ? As high as 75% or better ?

The 991.2 gt3 will not be limited but it will be like the gt4 limited to production capacity which AP did point out when the gt4 was announced. But they were.able to build a lot more Gt4 due to the production only shared with 981 variants and only the 981 Gts at the end whereas the gt3 will share the line with all 991.2 variants and the 718 although capacity should increase as the 991.2 is phased out/demand lower as the 992 will arrive next summer/Autumn 2018.But I still don't expect to see high numbers as per gt4 or 991.1 gt3 !

If Porsche do build too many 991.2 GT3s, they risk seriously damaging the GT/RS/R market.

If anyone can buy the new improved model at list, 991.1 GT3 values will surely plummet, this will in turn compress 997/996 GT3 and GT4 values. The shine will be taken off the exclusivity/rarity factor, and the domino effect will spread up and down the brand - from RSs and Rs to mainstream models.

Some may welcome returning to a time when these cars were easy to buy with plenty in the classifieds below list, but it will come with moans about poor residuals and the 'GT' badge will be rather like the 'M' badge on a BMW.

Would the Rolex Daytona have the same iconic desirability if anyone could pop into their local dealer and pick one up at list?

Absolute tosh from Evo in line with its rapid recent loss of credibility...par for the course.

To say anyone can buy one is comedy gold. Big difference between a limited run car and low production numbers of which the 991.1 GT3 and GT4 were typical.

Likely to be around 450 991.2 GT3s in 3 runs. Most OPCs taking a deposit will now virtually guarantee a build slot unlike the GT4 scenario which got out of hand and upset a few customers not getting a car and led to some bad Press although as ever this was ultimately good Press for brand Porsche.

Spot-on av185.

Extraordinary that the editor of a car magazine would say that. Clueless.

As you say 450 cars , that is a LOT of cars ( GT3 s ) they would never sell that many in the past ......how many people really want a track orientated car as a DD ( Used my 64 RS and GT3 daily , parking them on street ) , in fact I have not seen a GT/ Rs Porsche once on the road for a few months lots of Ferraris and normal Porsches ...... but no so called "halo" cars from Porsche .....
So the ownership has changed .....thousands are made and mainly kept in garages it seems ...
There are also lots of really nice cars now available from other Marques....
Personally , Luckily I can drive some of Porsches finest Race cars on track .......... and we still never insure them on track ...

This.

The people who think they can get one are busy ramping about 'limited numbers' and such as usual. There were loads of gt4s produced and 991.1gt3s in the end when people were talking up silly low numbers at first. If people really wanted a car to drive, lhd euro cars will not be much of an issue to get hold of

We are talking about the UK market here though.

Totally different to rest of Europe.

And I for one like many others wouldn't want a lhd car.

Wouldn't call 332 991.1 GT3s 'loads'....less than ten per OPC.

GT4 numbers in the upper 500s.
