Hi guys

Just purchased 997.1 gt3rs for predominantly track use and need some advice on a couple of things. Best brake pads for track use? (Steel brakes). And hot tyre pressure with cup tyres?

And help would be appreciated.

Cheers

That tyres, what brakes?

Cups 29 front 32 rear

Cup 2 32 front 34 rear

My favourite pads are PF08s but I have after market discs.

P.s you do know a RS is not for drivingjester

Thank for that.

What discs did you go for ? Did you keep the original

Any other tips re simple mods for track use?

Geometry settings?

Ps. This car is for using and to hell with the consequences!

Not really in your question but coolant hoses might be worth looking at if not already sorted especially if going to be used on track.

Yes,,coolant hoses need to be welded to avoid dropping oil on track....

Agreed --- do you think that is that also the case for Gen2 non Mezger ?

It certainly was for Gen 1 ...

Gen2 gt3 was still a mezger! smile

hoses seem to be far less of an issue on those cars for some reason, i dropped by Manthey to ask about it when there 2 years ago and they just recommended changing the hoses on inspection if required rather than needing to weld them down, unlike the 6gt3s or gen1. I did think it was an issue every mezger car potentially would have as fitted from the factory though.

Thanks ... I was asking about the humble non- Mezger Get 2 a la GT4 smile

Interesting story.

I was at Spa taking tuition from Sean Edwards in my 964RS N-GT.

We barrelled down into Pouhon following a Gt3 that I was about to overtake and suddenly flew out into the run-off. -- I picked the car up and ran around the bottom of the corner to re-join the circuit and Sean told me to be careful of the edge --- in the next breath he said "what happened there then ?"

I said that I had no idea, I'd been about to overtake the GT3 and suddenly I found myself catching a massive slide ...

He said "didn't you see the damp patch ??"

The GT3 had dumped it's coolant in front of me ...

A lovely guy Sean Edwards ... I would love to be able to show him how much he taught me ...

Racing is another dimension ............

There's a few in the states that would disagree and considering that all Mezger engines fix the coolant pipes the same way it can happen to any generation. I personally have only seen 3 cases of coolant pipes failing at track days, 1 was at the ring and car taken to Manthey for repair which they only glued must be there way. Personally I believe risk is low on UK cars but if your engine has to come out it's something to consider as if it does happen your in the hands of the gods as it dumps all the coolent over the rear tyres.

Dropping coolant more likely than oil smile

Will add this is not an epidemic or a prerequisite for using your car on track, not every car does it. But it certainly happens.

I run 380mm PF floating discs up front and Alcon 360mm at rear all grooved not drilled.

Modding is a slippery slope as the list is endless, but would suggest you drive the car and up grade as things wear out. Most common mods will be Brake discs get rid of the drilled holes as they crack with heat from track days, more aggressive GEO GT3s love camber and Cup diff plates at the rear. After than it starts getting silly on the wallet.
