So two fleet operators, both pretty savvy keep hammering at me that truck diagnostics is what I need to get into.

Drive round the local area £40 plug in and go to the next one.

I am a mechanic and run a one man band garage. I want to expand and take someone on.

I'd love to get into HGV work but I'm guessing it's going to be very costly. The tools etc will cost and also the training.

However are truck diagnostics guys really that daughter after?

Hi

I have been a HGV Technician for 30 years plugging a diagnostic machine into a vehicle fixes nothing. The diagnostic machine is a tool to read fault codes and carry out tests to help fix a problem.

Okay cool.

Yeah I thought as much as obviously I use fault codes, live data and actuation tests day in and day out but these guys are literally saying they nip in a garage pay 52 quid then come back and fix the issues and are saying I'd be in demand for a fault code read.

Does sound too good to be true!

Can you get access to the information you need without being a main dealer? Our tractor dealer has to spend fortunes on softwear (like £5k per laptop) for the software.

As the years go by, the number of machines that require limp mode switching off and software resetting etc will increase.
