GT3-based R-light is coming
Discussion
Just got contacted by my OPC with a rather cryptic offer. My rep just called it a GT3 and "the car that I was waiting for" (especially after Porsche let me down twice with the R).
It looks like it's going to be manual (which we already know will be an option) and with an aero without wing (which I explicitly asked for). I reckon it must be the car that Porsche engieenrs tested as 991T (for Touring) last Summer.
Anyone else got contacted and might know more? That I am excited is an understatement

Ohhh, I've said to my OPC several times my dream car is a GT3 with rear seats..... wonder if this will happen? Do you think PDK will be an option as I couldn't go back to manual...It looks like it's going to be manual (which we already know will be an option) and with an aero without wing (which I explicitly asked for). I understand that a number of VIP customers were flown out to see this car in late September alongside a cabriolet version of the R(speedster?), will of course be a plaque car. That seems to be the only public detail available at the moment. Congratulations on the allocation It looks like it's going to be manual (which we already know will be an option) and with an aero without wing (which I explicitly asked for). Sounds like Face lift etc from the 991.1 GTS, MT version. Good car to drive. It looks like it's going to be manual (which we already know will be an option) and with an aero without wing (which I explicitly asked for). Hmmm, I wonder where it will sit in the range and what engine it will have.
The 991.1 GTS engine is out of production, unless they're going to do a run of them for this 911T and for another GT4 - that would make sense regarding production costs and keep the 'R' as the version that had the motorsport engine....

All these rumours are starting to become a joke.
There hasn't been any communication of a 911T / GT3 Lite at the dealers. If there had been a VIP day (I doubt it), then it must have been done outside of the OPC network and ran directly from Porsche.
At a guess they may allow an option to de wing a GT3 from factory, but they (as do I) may see this a pointless exercise when a GTS's and R's (albeit not in production) already exist.

This is kind of how I see this. If you want a GT3 without the wings, you don't want a GT3. As my nan used to say.996GT2 said:

If Porsche builds me 911 with the GT3 engine and witout wings that I can actually buy (without jumping through a gazillion hoops), but with all available weight saving options plus a cage, I might get more interested in their new cars again

I am looking for an R-type of car - not yet another GT3/RS.
Your best hope of that is if they decide build a speedster version of the R as one of the last 991.2 cars. Nothing to say they will though.n17ves said:

it does exist, a few of the VIP's have seen it according to Rennlist
Must be true then. Any links?

If these rumours are true (big if), then the above is already starting to grate and induce a here we go again feeling.......
VIPs, plaque car, limited number blah blah - what about making a car you can walk into an OPC and actually buy without getting ripped off having to pay some flippers 'overs' - wouldn't that be an amazing concept?
If it was available 'to buy' (and IF they make it that is), I would absolutely love to buy something like this as a NEW car.

The R speedster "mock up" was shown to 918 owners at Geneva last year, in a back room...
Not all owners, just the ones who were there as part of the Spyder Circle trip, which also involved being flown on IWC's private jet to the watch factory, dinners, R advance screening etc, they all paid for the privilege, but it did happen.
As for this year's model - I think there will be a GT3 PDK, and then there will be something else with manual etc, but it won't just be a swap of the box and a 'wing delete'
