Hi

I am thinking of buying a 2009 3.6 gen 2 manual coupe for around £35k.

Do you think this will hold its value over the next 3 years, rise in value or plumit like a stone when 991.1 values fall to a similar level?

It'll probably just continue to gently slide.

Do the maths , if it depreciates another 20 % over say the next two years it's not really a lot of money is it ?

I don't think early 997.2 have depreciated at all over the last 24 months ?

I have been tracking market for a while..
Prices have definitely dropped but not by much
in the last 2-3 months ..maybe 5% after being pretty
static for the last couple of years..
I would say base price for 7.1 is around £20-£22k
which would make base for 7.2 imo £24-£28k

It is a safe buy. Depreciation will probably be the dealers markup.

I have not been watching prices for quite some time but wonder what my car would fetch privately, say.

997.2 Carrera S ultra high spec, full OPC history etc., owned by me from new with 9500 miles.

I think that's a safe bet, the S will always be more desirable though rightly or wrongly.
C2S gen 2 manual coupe will be the one to have in a few years when everything is PDK and FI.

Sold my 997.2 C2S almost a years ago. i would have to pay the same price today to buy it back. Prices are holding firm - probably partially due to the GTS effect. C2S would be a better bet than straight Carrera IMO.

This. I think a £5k dealer markup will be more significant than the depreciation over a couple of years.

Definitely. A year ago GTS's were in the £55k to £60k bracket now that money buys you a C4S 997.2 looking at the OPC AUC site.

Bought my 997.2 C2S in 2012 for £48k.

Sold December 2016 for £37k.

OPC prices for similar (in March 2017) are between £40k-47k.

A rising tide lifts all boats.
