Hi.

I recently re-joined BMW ownership as the proud custodian of a 2001 330Ci. All is good except it seems that none of the three buttons in front of the gear stick do anything.

The DSC (traction control) does work, and there are no warning lights on the dash while driving but the light does come on briefly when you switch the ignition on. The light does flash if you boot it round a wet corner. TNo lights appear on the dash when you push the button.

The OEM stereo (with HK speakers) works fine, including steering wheel controls etc however pushing the DSP button makes no change to the audio and does not put the tell-tale light on.

The RDC button does not appear to do anything.

The previous owner says they did work, so either they stopped when he put the original head unit back in or while the car was off the road for a few weeks before sale. All I have done so far is take off the storage bin above the panel and make sure the cables seem to be pushed into the switches properly.

Any one have any ideas for what I should do next? How is that panel removed?

Thanks in advance.

I had the same when I bought my e39. I bought a replacement panel off ebay and when I removed the original I found out the wires had disconnected.

You'll easily find a video on YouTube showing how to remove it and it's a 5 minute job. The wires are all on a single loom plug so all the buttons will stop working rather that each not working individually.

Cool, thanks!
