I fear you are both absolutely correct: the killer is 'dependent on seat variant'. I've read as I would want it to be, NOT as it reads! Oh well, I live in hope.

Anyone else swapping the steering wheel for a leather one?

I've had alcantara in the Spyder and it does get dirty very quickly.

Absoulutely not...!

An alcantara wheel is what makes a GT car. It shouldn't get dirty, but if it does, a stiff brass nubuk leather brush will sort it.

For those of you who don't frequent Rennlist forums here is some accurate data on the weights of all the seat variants:

Pair 18 ways= 122lbs(55.5 Kg)
" LWBS = 76lbs(34.5 Kg)
" Sport Bu = 90lbs(41 Kg) est
" Sportplus= 97lbs(44 Kg)

Basically there is a total saving of 21Kg between the 18ways and the LWBS.

Yep, always spec leather wheel and gear lever on GT cars. Prefer the feel and wears far better.

The alcantara is st imo and as you say it soon looks tatty. Fades in the sun too.

Only problem is the 12 o clock marker cannot be specced but a small price to pay.

What do people think of Lava Orange as a colour?

Not because of the colour itself but because of the association with the RS and it being the launch colour and all.

Not really sure I understand how to comment on a colour , without commenting on it as a colour ? Also , I think the launch colour on the GT3 is Guards Red - The RS was Lava .

Far more important is what is LO like as a colour - I'm a fan , it's an awesome colour in a GT car - changes shade depending on the light - from deep red to true orange - proper GT colour IMHO smile

Am sure I remember reading that the 997 gt2 seat (aka folding buckets) were around 80lbs so practically no different to the 918 seats. The cgt fixed 997 seats by contrast were i think 55lbs!

Sorry maybe I didn't word it how I meant it. Personally I love LO but I wondered if it was a good choice on the gen 2 GT3 as it was the colour associated with the RS.

I appreciate guards red is the associated colour, which I also like. I just wasnt sure if it was a good shout to sort of copy the RS if that makes sense.

A bit like I associate Carmine Red with GTS models.

I wouldn't be put off. If anything, a launch colour has already shown it's association with GT cars, so is established going forward. I'm having more trouble with Miami Blue because (imho) is associated with Caysters rather than GT cars - I'm still having it though. biggrin

Another example is Sport Classic Grey, its only recently become available via PTS and looks excellent on any GT car.

Had my last GTS for over 4 years and 45K miles, alcantara wheel and rest of the interior was as new with minimal upkeep, have you tried washing your hands?

Ah , OK , I think LO would look great on the .2 GT3 , esp with black PDLS and black or platinum wheels - there is only one rule about colour and that is buy what you like - nothing else matters (in respect of colour that is ) smile

I was going to spec tinted rear windows but I now think it looks good without as you can see the cage better

I think LO is more of an RS colour and not a GT3 one.

leather knocks £20k off the resale price :-)

PS nothing wrong with alcantara, it is the much better choice for feel and lasts no issue, to a point I would bypass a leather speced car when buying if alcantara was the oem fitment.

When I bought my 997 GTS I paid £1000 for a new Alcantara steering wheel because the original owner had specified the leather multifunction wheel (which looked ste). If they'd had Sport Design wheel in leather I would probably have kept it but I love the Alcantara wheel as I do the Alcantara manual gear lever!

I don't like Alcantara as it makes my palms sweaty - it's man made fibre.

The leather Porsche use is very high quality and better in my hands and feels better IMO.

I will be picking leather going forward, and keeping alcantara for roof.
Very true.

Maybe the 997 GT3 suits the alcantara more.

But the 991 GT3 is more split personality, more usable and imo leather looks far better.

Each to their own though!

alcantara is easy to keep clean

add lemon juice to warm water (think finger bowl, but not as much lemon)

rinse micro fibre cloth in lemon water, wipe alcantara clean, repeat

leave alcantara to dry
