Which do you prefer (from a driving perspective) - 997.2 or 991.2?
Now that is really tough - I can only compare 997.2 RS with 991.2 GT3 Manual (I much prefer both of these to 991.1 PDK GT3) - The 997.2 RS is harder to drive and is way less forgiving plus the sound of the engine is like nothing else. As such, for a special treat the 997.2 RS all the way - but the GT3 is really accomplished - its a bit Jekyll and Hyde - does both daily and fun very well - really tough call but if pushed I'd have to go 997.2RS but both are amazing - I think the 997.2 RS is just a very special car that will not be repeated in the modern age where as the GT3 will be repeated and improved upon again and again The 997.2 RS feels very, very special smile
Agree. I thought that after the arrival of the Touring I would want sell my vanilla 7.2 GT3 (but not the RS, of course). As much as I love the Touring (especially for this animal of an engine), getting back into the 7.2 I am amazed what a sensational driving experience it delivers.
And that's sort of my point (I had guessed you'd prefer the 997, RSVP911). IMO the 997 is a better car in manual than the 991, whereas the PDK in the 992 I'm sure will be better than the 991, and so on. And again why I think the 997 GT3 was a very special car - especially 997.2 RS. It's fantastic Porsche have listened and given us a choice of gearbox, after all they really didn't want to put a manual box with the 991 GT3. It's no 997 but it's the best (and only) manual of the modern car.

FWIW - I had a few roll-on races with a mate in his 7.2RS (only 2nd/3rd gear stuff on a private road) and there was virtually nothing in it. From a standing start, and through the gears the 991.2 would win comfortably - but that's mostly down to gearbox. Progress has been made in the 991 by technology, not raw power. Also, don't underestimate how strong the Mezger unit pulls

PDK is better. Manual is st. Manual with wing is really, reallly st. Makes sense in Touring, but with wing it’s st. IMO.

Yes but my spec is better than yours
Listen mate you should know more than anyone that nobody comes on here to brag about their car, but you do need to know yours isn't as good as mine. Not even close. Don't ask me why I know, but I know. If you want to have a spec-off, bring it on fella. Yours might be a bit better than st (on a good day) but it's not the Holy Grail, like mine. End. smile

First of all i agree with everything you've said above..Secondly i thought you'd sold your GT3 a while ago..
Still got it, just fancy a change. Only really thought about it this weekend... If I can find a Targa (preferably GTS) I'll sell / swap the GT3. Would be nice to go to a PHer smile

Popped into OPC Notts today to look at a C4S Targa. Looked a bit plain Jane tbh - probably not helped by it being in white. I need to see a GTS one. Also had a poke around a M4 CS. Quite liked it.

I fancy the CS, the cars speced were over £100k now £69k and like new
Be very rare also.

Great daily.
Hard to justify 25-30k over a Competition pack M3/4 though. Looks great in the flesh. I could quite easily be tempted by it (subject to test drive)

ETA I’d prefer the 4-door M3

Jethro did a review on motor trend a while ago. Said he preferred the GTS over the CS but that was probably comparing list price of both cars.

I do agree that used the CS looks like a good buy used.
Lets be honest the M4 just isn't and wasn't ever a £90k car, whereas the GTS is very much worth it's rrp. I agree with your last comment that the CS is starting to look value. I reckon you could pick one up for £65k by the end of the year, and at that, it's a good alternative to something like a C63s, Alfa, R64/5 etc etc.

Just in case anyone is interested....a mate is considering the sale of his 991.2 GT3. It was registered in October 2017 (67), and he's the only keeper. It's finished in white with a manual gearbox and has the following basic specification:

Clubsport pack, cruise control, front axle lift, smoking package (never smoked in), bi-xenon with PDLS, light design package, dash trim pack in leather, vehicle key painted with key pouch, sport bucket seats, chrono package, digital radio, satin black wheels, silver grey seat belts, door sill guards in stainless (illuminated), pedals in aluminium.

It's in completely unmarked condition having completed 1600 miles only and always garaged.

PM me and I'll forward contact info.
unless he's desperate to get out of it... might be worth holding onto until next Spring as trade will only offer around list today. Might be able to push for a bit more (£130k) to a dealer who's just sold one or two, but I'd hold on and let the majority of them sell and see if they firm up.

Nice spec other than the steels which will hit the price.
Yup, by about £2-3k.

In all seriousness, and just to put the PCCB myth to bed, I asked a couple of OPCs a few weeks ago how much *extra* they'd pay for PCCBs. Difficult to get a definitive figure.. but basically - depends on the overall spec of the car, but.... "upto £3k!". So yes, PCCBs cars will be worth more, but not £6k more. How do I know? I've just sold my GT3.

Some say... MrD was born was born with extra-sensitive erogenous receptors built into his bum hair that he can even tell you which wheel is missing a dust cap when driving at speeds upto 125mph. So yeah, in this case I do believe him biggrin

For the other 99.9999% of us.....

The GTS is IMO definitely the best vfm 991. I’d even say a standard C2 or C2S is all the car you’d ever want, but the GTS offers a lot more kit / power for not much more dosh. I’ve driven a few 991.2 GTSs, in both manual and PDK and it is a great car. Yeah it hasn’t got that last 20% that the GT3 has got, but the initial 80% is a better ride. GT3 has to be driven hard (20% zone) or not at all. IMO.

Haha cheers Spy. GT3 & GTS great combo mate!

Also, for me a big part of ownership and enjoyment is how the car looks. The GT3 looks the dogs bks. The GTS looks the part too - I like my 911’s wide.

I haven’t driven one yet, but secretly I think a T could be all the car I’d ever want or need. I can see myself buying one as a keeper. I need something to love after the honeymoon period has expired.

You are right. Side by side, the GT3T looks on another level. Really, there’s something about the T that means I could just sit and stare all day long. I’m sure the T is wider than GTS.
Sorry mate, I mean the standard bodied Carrera T. If you take price out of everything I think the T would just hit the right buttons for my kicks. I’d need to see a wider price gap between the T and GTS to buy one though. Psychologically the GTS offers so much more and greed would make me buy the GTS although the T would probably do the (my) ‘job’ better.

I know it’s virging on heresy in these parts but I absolutely love my Macan Turbo PP as a daily driver alongside my GT3, I know it’s not as much fun a a 991.2 GTS is going to be on a country road but it’s an awful lot better than it has any right to be....it really shrinks around you and has a proper turn of pace for an SUV.....when you want the comfortable motorway cruiser it’s very, very good at that and bizarrely rides better than our Cayenne. I’d say given it’s breadth of abilities it’s pretty much the best car Porsche make....way more fun to drive than a Panny or a Cayenne and in a straight line it’s as quick as a Carrera T.
I sat in a Macan Turbo PP Edition yesterday and must admit the cabin was very nice. Quality feel. £89k though. I drove one of the first Macan Turbos when they were launched (borrowed it for 2 days) and was hooked on the pace off the lights and also the ability to go round roundabouts like it was a sports car. Definitely rewrote the SUV rule book.
