Two years ago 997.2t manuals were selling for less and would hang around before selling. I wish I had bought one then.

All the ones I have seen for sale in the last 6 months have gone for a premium and mostly sold within 24 hours.

The blue one with 8k was artic silver with an ocean blue interior. It was well specced including PVT and ceramics. Not my choice of colour but still I tried to buy it. Sold on the Monday (advertised on eBay at £67250) on the Monday appeared at the OPC on the Weds at £78k then increased to £80k and sold by Thurs AM.

Two other manuals have come up in the last 6 weeks, one was a 2011 from memory, black with 48k and ceramics at £78k. Sold within a couple of days.

The other was last week, ruby red, dark grey interior again well specced, 18k miles and advertised for £73k. Sold within 24hrs.

The manuals are moving fast while many of the PDKs seem to be sticking for a while. That said the one at 911v looks like a good one for someone who likes the grey interior.

Sasha320. Hope you find the car you are looking for. It is mostly luck now with 997 turbo 's' given the lack of availability. A few came up in March/April 2015 when I was looking, hopefully this year will be the same...

I was hugely fortunate to find my longed for spec of a yellow 997 turbo PDK with ceramics / centre locks ( so lucky that I stopped doing the lottery as I had obviously used up all my luck points). Same as Funtimee, I was looking for a 997 turbo and didn't hope for an s given the rarity of my spec, but I was fortunate that it was an 's' that came up.

Having driven both I think in 90% of driving there is no difference. Honestly driving either is great and I'd buy on the closest spec match regardless of 's' or not.... With an 's' the extra 10% of driving makes the extra angst and waiting worth it ( usually on very quiet or closed roads ).

Earlier non s cars are a great package as a lot are specced with some of the right goodies anyway.

I know OPC premiums are not to everyone's liking, but I made the choice that it was worth it for me as these cars are now old enough for a few niggles. It's my 4th porsche, so I know there can be some bills. I've used the warranty for a couple of minor niggles such as the pimped carbon illuminated door sills needed replacing.. not a simple bulb change as porsche over-engineered the design ( but that's why we like their cars).

Bills on a 2011 car over the past 2 years.......the car decided that it wanted a new moll battery for its 5th birthday but that happens to just about all of them and at least it made use of the porsche assist service and I got a loan car while it was sorted...

Apologies to SL550M, my car is from OPC Leeds originally, so it's it probably the one you were looking for...it is a keeper because it makes me giggle like a kid again when the garage opens in any weather...

Hello Y Not. Yes, it was from OPC Leeds. That's 'my' car! Congrats on a great choice and no hard feelings. Honestly, I'm not bitter at all smile
Seriously, I'm glad it went to a good home and that you're enjoying the car. Sounds like you've got no intention of ever selling, but you now know who to call if ever you do fancy letting it go.
Let this be a salutary tale for the OP on this thread. When the right car comes up, don't dilly-dally. Just do it.

Of course. That would make a great thread resurrection much later wouldn't it..

OP. Have you tried a 991? I tried a couple at silverstone. They will not disappoint either...

Is it worth asking the likes of jzm to keep a look out? They probably service a few of these and may be able to persuade someone to sell at the right price?

Hi, I had agreed to buy the silver 997 Turbo manual and then the dealer sold the car the day before I went to collect it.

I bought the ruby red one 2 days ago. Lovely car

Wow - Yes that is my previous car, I would not hang about.

Looking at the advert, from memory i did about 45k of the 60k miles on the car. I handed it over to 911Virgin just under a year ago.

I assume it is a now 3 owner car.

I still have a spare winter tyre set for it in my lock-up going spare for it as well.

probably the nicest spec I've ever seen on a turbo.

nothing major, couple of minor stone chips and the clear stone guarding on the paint needed removing. I bought it from OPC Cambridge and it was serviced by OPC Tonbridge. I kept the car for 3 1/2 years.

I had to sell it as I was driving between London, Manchester and Liverpool and was putting too many miles on the car and it was not fair on it. The bulk of the 40K+ miles I did were motorway miles. Hence the PCCB's were (when I sold it) looked brand new.

its was a straight car when I sold it to Tom at 911Virgin. I bought it from another PH forum member (via OPC Cam.)

if you ask Tom nicely he might even give you his opinion on the car.

I kept an owners diary here:

JZM stock some lovely cars. I recently p/ex my 981 Spyder for a very nice 997 turbo tip at JZM. I was ideally after a manual; but this car had such a great spec (PCCBs, every leather option etc) it was hard to turn down.

I moved from a 997 Gen 1 tip turbo to a 997 Gen 2 Turbo S.

The combination of extra horsepower, variable vein turbos (meaning less lag) and
PDK is far greater than the sum of the parts look on paper.

The Turbo S drives like a completely different car.

It was a great move for me and I don't hanker after the 991 as if just seems a little
too big visually to me, the 997 seems more 911 like. The 991 almost appears like a completely
new model in a different category.

I'll probably get used to the 991 as all cars seem to get bigger and bigger but right now
I'm extremely happy in the 997 Turbo S; it really is exceptional.

Thanks to everyone for all your replies and commentary.

I'm still listening but taking a step back.

The last post from Carl W6 is exactly what I was assuming at the start of the post.

(Admitedly Carl's comparison is between a 997.1 TT Tip and 997.2 TTS PDK rather than an Turbo S with a 997.2 TT PDK non-S where I think the gap may be smaller).

BUT the point still resonates between the Turbo Gen 2 S and non-S.

Maybe I'm being a badge snob if a non-S car has PTV, Engine mounts, centre lock and PCCB (see the 911 Virgin car)? If so, all that then separates the 911 Virgin car from a Turbo S is the permanent extra turbo boost?

Anyway, the holding position right now is to wait for another OPC Turbo S at the same price point or less than Jabbah's MG* car. I may wait a long time and it may never happen (or prices increase) but I've come to the conclusion that for me this purchase needs to be perfect because it is a second car.

  • even the MG car didn't have centre locks which Jabbah may have agonised over briefly! I think I would have!
