Still need more info. Only car, weekend toy, garaged. Performance for £ you'd do well with many seven-esque kit cars, but not right for everyone.

If your referring to a type r then you'll need deep pockets for performance gains. Aftermarket parts are expensive and unless spending ££££ gains will be minimal.

Remapped E92 3.0 diesel - should see 300+ bhp and RWD fun.

I'd start with a car that has already had some upgrades added so you can pick & choose what options you want to keep & the ones you don't you sell on.

Options:

Nissan 200SX S14

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1999-NISSAN-200sx-S14A-M...

Supercharged 328i

2.5T Mondeo with some upgrades

Focus ST

Which Civic you looking at? i have the FN2 Type R and as someone already stated you need deep pockets if you want to modify the engine

Kpro, new exhaust system, bigger throttle body and stage 2 drop in cams is going to be nearly £4000 looking at Tdi North website

Mk5 Golf GTI/Seat Leon Cupra R maybe, easily remapped and tons of proven aftermarket parts.

However, looking through your previous topics this would appear to be a massive waste of time.

You can tune an EP3 to the hills and back but it's still going to be an N/A screamer with not much low-down shove. There's nothing wrong with that btw if you like that sort of thing.

At that price, for me, it would be a MK2 Focus ST. Great noise and much more scope for getting more gains and noise of that engine. A very strong engine too with it being a Volvo unit.

Mk1 or Mk2 MX5.

Get a decent one for £2-3k and turbo it and you'll probably still be below the £6k spend.

Cheapish parts, easy to work on and plenty of options for performance and body modifications, RWD for skids too.

Ideal car to learn about working on a car too.

Or you can Supercharge it wink

But yes, there are better choices out of the box for tunability!

Mazda 3 MPS
Leon Cupra MK2

Both can see ~300bhp with a stage 1 remap

Definitely Mk2 Focus ST, easiest tuning potential probably in that price bracket. Conveniently, mine is about to be up for sale wink
