Don’t know if it’s because it’s a Friday or if it’s because it’s sunny or even if it’s because it’s 1st March but I seen at least 2, 996’s & 4, 997’s on this morning commute.

Every driver had a smile on their face compared to the others
I'm WFH today but I took mine in last Friday, as it was sunny and Friday (and my wife needed my daily)! Nearly got home in the dry too before it poured down about ten minutes from home... Oh well! Definitely makes more of an event of a dull commute.

These door panels are bothering me. I didn't realise you could get plastic door panels on a 996.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/166544576469

I don't think you could on a UK spec car.
So it's not a UK car. Pic of the plastic rears...

I had a UK cable throttle R reg C2, it had plastic door panels. Perhaps it's an early thing?

Has anyone who currently owns a 996.1 c2 manual coupe (or previously) spent much time in a 987.2 Cayman S ?

If so I’d be interested in a chat to see how you felt they compared.

I’m considering selling my 996 for one (in part due to a knee injury) and just curious how much enjoyment and involvement I’m going to lose !

No experience here sorry.

Is this a left knee clutch pedal thing?

If you are over 6 foot you will find the mid engine cars cramped. Don't wanna go on about leg room if not a concern so let me know. Just imagine sitting in your 996 with the seat forward around 4 or 5 clicks. Possibly more I'd need to measure.

I wish. I’m a mere 5ft 7 ish

Knee is a ruptured ACL and meniscus tear. I did it years ago but it’s now causing me real problems. Surgery awaits etc.

Just spent the morning giving the car a quick wipe over before I list it - I’ll link in here if that’s ok.

Cool thank you.

Advert now live. I can't for the life of me reorder the images so apologies for the interesting viewing order.

Forgive me if this is impertinent - but what is the nature of the issues you are having with the knee? I've torn the medial ligament in my right knee and ruptured the ACL in my left, so have a degree of experience in how much of an inconvenience this type of thing is.

Where I'm coming from here is that whilst I'm not the same height as you are (I'm a little taller) I found that the stock seating position in an early 996 really didn't work for me.

I went to a smaller wheel and the centre-console delete and that gave me room to have my left leg free to adopt the position that it wanted to be in, rather than wedged between the wheel and the console. My car is currently living with a friend near you - you'd be welcome to have a sit in it (stock seats now, as the SPG didn't suit said friend) to see if the changes I made would be kinder to your knee.

My current plan is to go and look at a 987.2 Cayman S PDK. So, move to an auto.

Personal drivel follows: I get a lot of pain in my knee from the injury, and with two autistic children that need physical support and aren't getting any smaller, so I need to make the right choice for our family here.

I love the car, its incredible, and I wish I didn't need to move it on, but we have to pick our battles in life. Keeping this isn't the hill I intend to die on when plenty of other vehicles in the Porsche range are still going to be enjoyable.

Isn't the Centre Console Delete over 400 now?

In black, nearly double that …
Porsche parts algorithms know a run on old parts when they see it.
Price gouging springs to my mind.

I had mine re-covered in alcantara, and the remaining plastic blanking plate painted body colour. Because I have a problem, clearly.

800 is crazy money. Surely the after market should come to the rescue here. Lots of margin available for some cottage industry types to pop up. If I do get one I'd be tempted to deconstruct it and see about making some looky likeys.

£18k, Zenith Blue 996 Carrera 2. Engine rebuild in the last 1000 miles by AMS. Horrible wheel colour but easily fixed. MO30 suspension and non sunroof too.

Service history looks like it was offroad between 2009 and 2023.

£400 for booster red. I guess colouring the carpet wouldn't be too tricky but it is bloody expensive. If anyone is feeling public spirited and can lend me one I've recently got myself a 3d scanner and am a design engineer when I'm not posting on pistonheads so am confident I could knock something up that would be suitable for manufacture on a 3d printer.

That wheel colour is the worst. Makes it look so cheap. Nice buy for someone if they can get the wheels painted as part of the deal.

this guy on Insta makes center console deletes and few other bits for 996s. His center deletes are more like £275 delivered.

Hi all, I am looking for a second opinion on an issue with my 1998 3.4 C2 996.

I purchased it in Autumn last year from a specialist dealership & cost almost £20k so at the higher end of the market. I found the advert for the car on this thread! Four months later (February) I have noticed the engine is ticking/tapping but only at hot idle. It doesn't always tick, but it happens often enough to be noticeable. I swapped to Millers Oil which is sometimes a known solution but this did not remedy.

The car did come with a 3 month warranty and this issue has been identified to the dealer outside of this period albeit only by a few weeks. They have offered zero help and been quite dismissive of the issue.

I am not overly concerned as many early 996 tick, and I will keep driving and enjoying the car regardless. However I would perhaps have expected the dealer to stand by their cars a bit more and be more amenable in offering to help resolve the issue (they have offered to look at the car in early May.. lol). I am not expecting them to remedy a solution for free but ideally we would have worked together to get to a point where we are both happy.

Am I overly concerning myself with this, or should we expect the dealer to be more amenable in helping fix a car sold only 4 months ago?
