Having sold the R8 some while ago I am itching for another sports car, this time looking at a 911 as I would like to share some driving time with the family (the R8 was not good at that). The GTS seems the sweet spot of the range but after a discussion with my local OPC it appears that production of the 991.2 variants is pretty much complete (I am aware of the factory shutdown), with only C4S and C4GTS available for deliveries possibly early 2019.

Now the 992 is not expected to launch until September, but a deposit now secures an early build slot. Again my OPC suggest it could be 18 months from now before I see the 992 on my drive, and for a GTS variant most likely more. I am really keen to be able to spec a new car built to my specification, looking on approved used there is not a big cost margin (new vs nearly new)...only the wait is the problem.

I am just not sure I want to take a C4GTS for early 2019, if there would be an option to spec a 992 GTS for delivery later in 2019 I would just go that route (the dealer is suggesting buy both, but then he would....the cost to change would be high). I had not realised the build run on 991.2 GTS was pretty much done, I was looking to place a deposit for 2019 delivery car (allowing myself time to count the cost of a current house extension/renovation), but it appears if I miss out on the current model...I could be due a serious wait.

I ended up with 991.1GTS as couldn’t order .2 RWD, very decent spec and saving. So can happily wait and see what the 992 brings rather than spend a lot more on a less than optimum solution.

I'm in a similar position to you in either speccing a 991.2 C4 GTS if slots are possible or wait for a 992 variant.
The problem is that all the C4 S, GTS, Turbo models won't be around for ages and I need to get out of my car sometime this year ideally.
This guy expects the 992 GTS model to be released around 2021 so my thinking is get a 991.2 C4 GTS now and see what the new models are like and upgrade in a few years if necessary......
First world problem and all that but hey ho smile

I too am in the exact same predicament. I am minded to go for a last run well specced GTS and see how the 992 pans out.

It may be it has features not desired to some and the 991.2 residuals could remain strong? They did with the 991.1.

Also Likely the first 992 will be released with limited models and most certainly not a GTS.

Yes I agree the 992 will launch with the C2S and C4S not the GTS range, could be 2020 before see a GTS at the dealers.
Looks like a few of us in the same boat smile

Just watched that vid, if correct 2022 for the 992.1 GTS....jeez!
Could make the last of the line C4S GTS a good buy?

Just checked the approved OPC website and you guys are right the GTS .1 and .2 are doing well with residuals.

My local OPC has 2 new GTS's in the showroom so worth calling around and checking to see if the spec is what you are after.

Yeah I don't think his estimates are far from wrong. GTS models are always the last in line to be released so it has to be 2021/22 for sure.
I would definitely be interested in the current GTS model as surely Porsche can't make the new model much better looking! And yes the 991.1 and 991.2 GTS models seem to be holding value really well so surely it will be a good buy.....

In a similarish situation, was wondering If the release of the 992 will have an affect on the gts residuals, will they drop slightly when the new model is announced/availabile? I’m guessing the new Carerra S will be close to the current gts in terms of performance

Although in the case of the 991.1 GTS, that has a lot to do with it being the last of the N/A “non-GT” cars....

The Porsche UK site has no 911 variants available to order.

Is that the end of 991 production until the 992 becomes available to order?

No! OPC's will be getting some C4 GTS build slots (no idea why only the 4 and not the 2)....I think each OPC is getting a handful. I believe that's all though...no other 911 variants until 992 arrive. I am sure you'd be able to find a build slot if you ring around.

I think you are right, I may be selling my 99.1 GTS 2 wd manual as I am moving house and my OPC was all over it. Why you can only order the 4wd heaven alone knows. These are great cars, probably the best car I have ever owned and I have had a few.

IIRC you bought your GTS from Cardiff OPC about a year ago..

My OPC has a manual Gelb Grun 991.GTS demo which I had for a day and thought was fantastic. I was wondering if it was the same car. Not many manual 991.2 GTS’s around!
