I have just plugged the sound synthesizer output into the cabin of my 991 and got rid of the (to me) horrible speed related drone. It allows me to hear the relatively quiet engine/exhaust sound which is much more pleasant.
Next stop a louder exhaust......

It’s a tube that runs from the engine compartment to the rear of the cabin.

Is that really a synthesizer? I know the F10 M5 has a synthesizer that creates & plays artificial sounds over the car's speakers. This is just transfering sounds that the car makes into the cabin right?

The sound symposer is a diaphragm valve that reacts to the intake pulses; the oscillations create a wave that is piped into the cabin for increased noise. It is controlled by a solenoid that is switched using the SPORT/SPORT PLUS modes.

Some Cayenne / Panamera models have two - piped into the A pillars.....
