I ran my Caterham without a front plate but always carried one in the back, "it fell off Officer..."
I wasn't ever stopped.

DMB graphics can also do them. GT cars look best with a vinyl front plate on imho. The regular plate and plinth does spoil the lines of the front end a bit but stick on vinyl looks great.

It’s all a bit Max Power leaving the front plate off imho, and just seems a bit attention seeking. I mean, the car will “look better” without the clutter of a rear plate too, so why not go the whole way and leave that off too?
I've had DMB vinyl plates on four cars and can testify that the quality and service top notch..I've recently had their plates put on my current GT3 and 981 Spyder and they transform the front end of the car..This is especially on my Carrera white Spyder as only the characters are visible.
DMB will no longer supply plates to private buyers, just through dealerships due to legalities.

Ive got double sided suction cups on my front plate so you can remove or have it on as and when required.

I forgot to put it on once and went to the petrol station, was told to put it on so theyd serve me fuel. Been other times without it on (take it off when the car goes into the garage each time as moisture can get trapped between the cup and paint) and never been flagged.

No plate on my GT3 RS - no trouble yet. I normally run my fun cars with a 3/4 plate and the only time I got into trouble was in Wales when I received a "welcome to Wales" voucher for £100 in respect of the 3/4 plate on my Focus RS.

Highgate supplied R stripes in matt black and fitted by Reep Midlands. Great service all round and would highly recommend.

Had no plate for a few weeks, but put on a small vinyl plate supplied by Highgate before a trip to the Alps. Had no issue with UK plod, but didnt want to chance it in Switzerland!

Some cars look better with or without them.

However to me it seems you're tempting fate every time you go out, risking the chance of attracting the wrong sort of rozza's. A possible fine for no number plate first then what else?

I'd get a number plate - it's not like you'll notice it when you're driving smile

Looks lovely with the stick on plate IMO. Best of both worlds if the car really does hold value by not having drilled plate holes

That style of plate really is the best compromise, as I think I'd be the unlucky one that gets pulled over five minutes from home and given a straight up fine. Plus I just couldn't be bothered with the constant feeling I'm in the wrong and going to get caught every time I took the car out, but good luck to those that run without. How does this affect insurance?

I had real doubts about Miami, I wasn't really struck by any of the colours on offer this time, and my Gen 1 was Metallic Black, so looked fabulous when it was clean, which was for all of 30 seconds after it was washed... Blue's a bit different for me so I took a punt on it, and to be honest I was pretty nervous just before the unveil as I thought I might of made a huge mistake. But when you see it close up, (on your very own car) it's a much better colour than I expected. It has grown on me every time I look at the car. I know it's not for every one but I am well pleased with it.

Not a Porsche man and not read the whole thread but why not stitch a little black velcro to the grill and have a velcro'd plate in the boot and use the:
"It fell off and didn't want to risk it coming off on the way home"
"I took it off at a show and forgot"
Etc. etc.

Stick on plates are great until it comes time to remove them, upon which you may remove some of the lacquer = front end respray

It might not = bonus

You might put the plate on over the PPF = wont remove the lacquer but the PPF might on its removal

You can do magnets behind the bumper and then cloth wrapped magnets on the plate. If you dont wrap them then they leave marks on the paint work. Remove the plate each time its not in use otherwise youll get black round circles on the paint work over time

Velcro - is ok but will leave the black part on the car when not in use.

Double sided suction cups - allow placement anywhere but you need to remove the cups when not in use otherwise moisture can build up in the suction bit and damage paintwork (id imagine you need a really long extended periods of time for this to happen)

Just google what the dubbers do and youll find pros and cons of all the ways

I was thinking velcro on the black mesh beneath the bumper, hence black and only for temporary fitting as it would restrict air flow

Or something like

(If it's not obvious this is mounting to the tow hook point, so no contact with paint, easily removable, and you can stick a standard plate to it).

Stick on for me as I want to reduce the chance of being pulled over for a slight misdemeanour and no plate could be giving them an excuse.

What answer would you give if you were stopped by police for no front plate? I'm happy to be corrected, but you'd have to convince the officer that it "just fell off" in order to get away with a small fine. If they suspect you are doing it to evade motoring offences then that is a different issue, I have seen on police TV shows were an offender has to leave their car at the side of the road until a number plate gets affixed.

Not disagreeing with running no front plate just genuinely interested, I'd run with no front plate but my bumper has been drilled.

Wacky Racer said:
A £1000 fine would make them think twice.
Do you think a £1000 fine would put people off who can afford a GT3? Probably 2-3 days wages at most.
How about six points on their licence then?

That's what you get for using a mobile phone.

I'm not being a killjoy, I can see why people don't like front number plates if they spoil the look of their car, but they are there for a good reason, and I don't just mean evading speed cameras.

Only this morning the car involved in the London incident had had the front plate removed.

I tried a sticker but I made a dogs breakfast of putting it on as the curve of the bumper was too big a challenge to avoid creases.

I went with Four Dot front and rear in the end and although expensive they look nice and come with a full fitting kit which makes it easy to get right first time.

That's just individuals being jobsworths in my experience. Most garages have camera's at both ends of the forecourt to enable them to see the rear number plate if the the front number plate is obscured, or vice versa. If you rock up at a busy petrol station at peak time on a Friday evening and there's plenty of cars at the pumps already, they'll not say a word .... rolleyes
Jobsworths being difficult for the sake of being difficult.

I agree, its only been an issue at the station once and ive only been reminded once by the Police to put it back on (was stationary, they drove past etc.)

As for the rear plate above, surely thats just asking to be tugged if Trafpol are behind you? PLus couldnt they get the angles lined up correctly?
