Hello,
I have a 996.1 c4 and tyres are getting a bit old. I know gen 1 oe were 265 profile and gen 2 went to a 285 with a drop in tyre wall profile.

Will gen 2 spec rear tyres go onto gen 1 c4 rims are they the same width alloy ?

Thanks

285/35 are fine on a stick 10” rim. They will fit and not rub.

Can you still get the 265 or do you want the 285.
Just wondering why people choose to go up to 285

285 was an option on early 996, and standard on the later car.

I had a topic related to this last week as my 996.2 C4 has 265s fitted and I hadn't realised until I came to look at new tyres that it took 285s as standard. I'd decided to go half way and buy 275s.

To be honest it grips fine much more than my style of driving can trouble but a pure aesthetic exercise i like the look and if an extra bit of meat on the back and I know 20mm isn't much but if they fit without any drawback and help give me that wider tyre rear look I'm happy. Thanks for the info.

You can fit a 295 on the 996.1 narrow body. But ideally you need different wheels if you only have 10 inch wide rears.

My 996.1 C4 has 285s on the back with GT3 split rims & hence is running 10J rims & yet I've a friend with 265s on his same aged C4 (I'm guessing he might have the narrower rear rims).

No most 996 have 10 inch rims and the early cars all came with 265.
