Need the rear seats for my two little ones. It was a consideration!

I'm also a much bigger fan of the 997.2 vs 997.1 (personal tastes...) and the 997.2 GT3's are still 30-40k more than a manual GTS (if not more)
Same reason as me, rear seats and the only GT3 I wanted was a .2 - good ones are def 30k more than the equiv GTS. The GTS has been great, the drives I’ve done where it’s felt such a complete car, ride, handling, noise, involvement. I do ponder moving on but everyone tells me not to!

The rear seats in the 997s are ideal for small children. They like the feeling of security provided by the tunnel and the relatively compact space. Ours described it as "safe", despite the sometimes pacey driving required to get them to school on time!

Exactly this ^ My process went:

-Wanted a 997.2 GT3 (but would use it far less due to no rear seats)
-Moved on to looking for a 997.2 Turbo S (but worried a bit about engagement. Had a 991.2 GTS in the past and found it a bit too easy to just get in and go...)
-Looked at a 997.2 Manual GTS. Bought the first one I viewed and drove!

My kids are 5 and 7, so when they grow out of the idea of being in the back, I might look to get into a 997.2 GT3. Probably a few years to go still, though.

also came across some lovely 997 GTS with bucketseats, could be a nice mix, I came across 2 of those in ads in the same period, both are gone though and since then not seen such nice combo's.

Dropped my teenage daughter and her two friends at a party one night in my old GTS. Her slightly roadman-speaking mate in the passenger seat said it was 'Sick, mate...'

Plenty of room back there hehe

Hi all, I’m looking around for a c2s or GTS at the moment - I missed the black one as Ashgoods but have seen a red one privately.

Leather doesn’t bother me but red was probably bottom of my colour list, but the more I look, the more I think it might well grow on me (and probably needs a painted centre console and the painted skirts/lip putting back to black).

No heated seats, but probably just being an old man thinking how much I’d use them (all the time in my daily!).

Anything else worth considering?

There are a couple of c2s I’m interested in too, but think I’ll always be hankering after the GTS if I go that way… I’d save £12-15k with a c2s though (head vs heart etc).

Have you driven/owned a pre-991 PDK transmission car ?
I’d suggest you try before you buy, as the old PDK transmission was a deal breaker for me.

Drove a c4s the other week - manual mode was a bit slow, but auto was fine (that c4s didn’t have sports Chrono to be fair). Pdk was not as good as my old macan gts but I preferred the more mechanical/old school feel of the 997 generally vs the couple of 992s I’ve driven (gts and turbo s). Never driven a 991 though.

Very nice! Is it the one at RSJ?

Thanks all - I’m looking forward to it! It’s not the RSJ one - a couple of Guards Red ones came up over the past couple of months! Not my first choice of colour tbh, but everything else is right with it.

I’ve got to get the airbag deactivation fitted so my youngest can travel in the front, then it’s going to be fulfilling ‘second car’ duties for us.

Well…

Some 3.5 years on from starting this thread, my mind is once again back in 997 land.

First child arrived a week ago and in the run up the GT4 went for a Range Rover Sport for the Mrs…

I’m currently 11k miles / 18 months into an FL5 Civic Type R which is a great car but not without its frustrations. Namely it’s very wide and has a few too many rattles interior wise and it’s possibly a bit try hard with the rear spoiler etc.

I’ve been thinking of chopping the Civic and trying to run a 997 in its place - a GTS if possible but there seems to be little around and I’d want something demure colour wise (white really was the flavour of the day 12/13 years ago!!).

I do like a manual hence the Civic but it may be a bridge too far price wise.

Will lap need to try to figure out a rear facing car seat solution as there will be the odd local nursery pick up / drop off to be taken care of. Can’t see there’ ever being a need for journeys more than 5/10 mins in length.

So hard to find cars to test as they get older and dealers understandably don’t want test pilots.

Will need to see how things unfold in the coming months but worst case may be a ‘lesser’ 997.2 car.

Anyone have experience of the 997.2 base car in manual as a local club member is selling a very tidy one.

Cheers

Wow! I was 6 years into my GTS when you started the thread and 4 years later I’ve just ticked over 10. Still love the thing and it’s still a keeper. As some have mentioned above I keep thinking about swapping it for all manner of other sports / super cars but it keeps winning the battle. 997 is where it’s at for my era of Porsche and I think the GTS is the best road biased version of the 997 for the potholed reality of UK driving.

In saying all of that any 997.2 is not a bad shout if you can get a nice one for the right cost. My mate has had his 2010 997.2 C2S from new and is looking forward to the next 14 years in it.

Well, I’ve now got a GTS on the driveway! A drive this evening really confirmed to me I’d made a good choice!

Red was originally pretty low down my colour list, but everything else stacked up so I went for it… only a day in and I really love the colour!

It was a red car that pulled at my heart strings in the GTS the first time I saw one!

That being said both cars on our drive our red so I do have a bit of penchant!!!

Good health to enjoy - car looks fab

Marmite car.

The red doesn't offend, but I would have gone with a black steering wheel.

The buyers for these tend to prefer alcantara and red is not for everyone.

So withhat in mind, £80k is punchy IMHO.

Not sure the interior is red enough for my taste.
