I don’t know what it is exactly, but these just don’t excite me as much anymore as in the past. I think it is that a special Porsche came along every few years then, now it literally seems like every few months.
Agree. It used to be that special models were only built to satisfy homologation requirements for racing. And most were used as intended.
Such cars were relatively rare - although they did build 1,580 2.7RSs.

Now, it just seems to be a formulaic marketing strategy, with new ‘halo’ models being introduced with relentless regularity, to satisfy buyers who want something supposedly more exclusive than everyone else.

Looks like another average (or 'mean' hehe) allocation of half a car per UK OPC.

Shame.

992.2 GT3 Touring out testing with the ST

The front car (Touring?) has a strange rear bumper with vents behind the rear wheels which a standard Touring doesn't have? It looks totally different to the 2nd car.

This is going to be the one to have i think, however it will fall into the hands of the same people who get every GT allocation from their OPC due to sell back agreements and brown envelopes.

I quite like it though as said above wont ever be in a position to buy one as A. I’m not married to the Dealer Principal’s daughter and B I don’t have a large enough brown envelope.

I don’t really see the point. I even less see the point of making a handful of them.

Yet another car that no one can actually buy. That at the end of the day probably won’t barely any different to a GT3.

It’s all a bit sad really.

+one

Pointless unless it’s going to be made available in far greater numbers.

Am really curious what changes over a Touring the ST will bring. Would need to be substantial to lure me out of the Touring

Another limited porsche …zzzzzz.
So true. But, for now, they'll be enough enthusiasm stirred up across forums/social media about its technical abilities (which let's face it - if it was a blind tasting, no one could really tell the difference) + limited edition / investment potential, make it a no-brainer purchase. I'm sure it'll sell very well.

When it comes to special edition Porsche's I'm reminded of the Howard Marks sardines joke...

"Two friends meet in the street, and Joe asks Sam what’s new. “Oh,” he replies, “I just got a case of great sardines.”

Joe:

Great, I love sardines. I’ll take some. How much are they?

Sam:

$10,000 a tin.

Joe:

What! How can a tin of sardines cost $10,000?

Sam:

These are the greatest sardines in the world. Each one is a pedigreed purebred, with papers. They were caught by net, not hook; deboned by hand; and packed in the finest extra-virgin olive oil. And the label was painted by a well-known artist. They’re a bargain at $10,000.

Joe:

But who would ever eat $10,000 sardines?

Sam:

Oh, these aren’t eating sardines; they’re trading sardines."

Anyone heard anymore on the rumours about the 992 Gen 2 GTS getting the NA 4.0?

I was told some time back (at the time of getting my gen.1 GTS Targa) that the gen.2 would be hybrid as the space is in the design for the electric motors. I have a deposit down on a replacement GTS Targa, and which likely kick it back to a gen.2 if it was offered earlier.

Porsche CEO stated in an interview maybe three or four years ago that 992.2 would be when they introduce hybrid…how far down the range it goes who knows. His comments were at the time “it will be the most powerful 911 ever” so I assume the new Turbo S flagship will be a hybrid. My guess is it will be something like the new AMG Merc with a small battery aimed at troque fill.

I believe it will be the last of the 992.1 before the introduction of hybrid drivetrains in 992.2.
