Over 300 miles done today. What a car!!

It was driven on A roads, B roads, motorways, in torrential rain, through massive standing water patches and never missed a beat. It remained stable and staight as an arrow even at speed through the very worst conditions mother nature could throw at it and supremely comforatable, even with buckets. Even had the back end slipping and sliding on some of the faster bends and larger islands biggrin

Have been fortunate enough to have done plenty of miles in all of Porsches finest over the past few years and this is quickly becoming my favorite. So underrated. Really is the all weather supercar!

What broke ?

I remember being told by a LR dealer of a customer that had taken his new Range Rover out with gay abandon and ended up with a £7000 bill ....

I'm sure theres a joke in there somewhere.....

Not sure, it was making a rattling sound as soon as i picked up, but i thought it was the cage. Got worse over the last few days so took it in.
Service advisior came out for a drive and intially thought it was suspension bushes, but they had a good look around but couldn't see anything out of place. It will go back to them in next couple of weeks now and they will have a good look over it and get it sorted.

So a pal has just been in to OPC Manchester for some nonsennse to do with his Cayenne keys, sent me the image of the Dakar in the showroom.
Apparently cancelled order.

Whilst at list they are talking "make me an offer" of circa £250k.

I thought these Dakars were meant to be rocking horse do do, so whats the story ? I also thought OPC's were only allowed to sell at overs ones 'back from the first owner'/ pre-registered?

You mean Stockport OPC? One previous owner not VAT deductible so has been sold to a private user then sold back sharpish!

I see (I think!)
There’s always a story - and not as per my pal said.

Probably is a cancelled order, but as the OPC what would we prefer to do, arrange a quick sell and buy back and then put 50k on the price or call the next person in line and sell for retail, I doubt to it ever left the dealership during the process of putting that registered owner on.

Thanks - but still sat there looking for a home suggests that the ‘want’ vs ‘overs’ vs ‘VFM’ is a tough pinch point in the Dakars if folks were looking to buy as investments ? Or am I all wrong ? Surely someone disappointed not to receive a slot would be lightly tapped for a mark up, but the overs the OPC is pushing are beyond comfort.

My OPC was originally told they were getting two, at last count they’d had eight….

I'm hearing exactly the same. I bought an early car, terrific, and it was emphasised how lucky I was to get one. Two months later clearly the latest batch have arrived, 12 for sale at last count and not selling. I'd like nothing more than to see these drift to provide for a wider audience but for now I'd be taking a watching brief and being patient...

I have been on the list of my OPC in Germany since the Dakar was announced. An allocation never materialised. There are now more than 35 advertised on mobile.de. I still want one BUT not paying those silly overs. Something gotta give. They are producing 2500 in all - that is quite a lot for a niche car.

Yes the unicorn cars generally not bought by users which is fine as more assets .At least you can use this on the farm , I still do not get the Sports Classic appeal , one at OPC West London , for £350k .I have no interest at all but then my favourite Porsches are 964 RS and 993 GT2 so a bit of a beard.

The Sport Classic thing is ridiculous….it’s priced like it is because of the 997 but there are only 250 of them globally and it was a genuinely special thing to look at.

I’ve heard the line that the SC is unique because it’s effectively a RWD manual Turbo. Well that might be the case but you could have a GTS or a few other models as a RWD manual turbo too. It’s unique because it’s ludicrously expensive and has a duck tail. Which frankly looks daft on the 992’s fat arse.
