This is pure speculation but…I wonder if Porsche will actually release a mid-cycle refresh of the 992, or just keep it as-is until the next all-new 911 model?

I know a mid-cycle refresh probably offers the potential of a boost in sales as it’ll appeal to those who crave the latest version, but what realistically needs to be changed on the current 992.1 model? Thinking about previous mid-cycle refreshes:
996.2 improved the styling by binning the fried egg headlights and adding a modest power increase
997.2 introduced a totally new much more reliable engine
991.2 introduced turbocharged engines across the range (excl. GT3)

OK I’m biased as I’ve just picked up a new 992.1 and think it’s fabulous in every way, but what would Porsche change to increase the appeal to buyers? Getting rid of an analogue tachometer and making some minor changes to the bumper, as is rumoured for the 992.2? Hardly seems revolutionary.

Or maybe, given the swings in demand given the current economic situation, perhaps it would be better to keep producing the 992.1? That would avoid the risk of any component inventory write-offs in the changeover, and presumably save some money.

You heard it here first!

There will definitely be one. In recent generations the gen 2 car is when they roll out the power train updates (hybrid?), everything else is minor. Expect interior changes to reflect more of the Taycan and new Cayenne.

Yes, and due soon, one of the contributing factors to the number of new 911s available is that buyers are deffering their orders to the .2 and vacating their .1 spot in the queue.

A whole slew of 992.2 variants including the GT cars over the next couple of years.

I understand the 992.2 has been delayed? OPC mentioned it a few weeks ago and Nick Murray, (YouTuber) mentions a 12 month delay in his latest video.

Estimated delivery sometime in 25…

Interesting point on the 992.2. My OPC told me only a couple of weeks ago that the the launch will be held at the LA Motor Show in November, and that the order books will be open from early Jan.

But interesting to read that some dealers are still getting allocations for cars for Nov/Dec, you would expect 992 production to halted whilst tooling is changed.

Interesting, and no doubt effective. Not loving the aesthetic though.

Are we any closer to knowing more details, and the likely start of production ?

Haven’t trawled through the internet, but gather it could be as early as next spring/early summer, although ‘hybrid’ coming later.

Must be a dilemma for anyone contemplating a new 992.1.

Public announcement should be soon, as speaking to OPCs, the demand for 992.1 is cooling off, and people that are prepared to wait for the new model cause production planning issues.

I am one of many customers that advised OPC that I no longer want 992.1 and I will wait for 992.2. It creates problems for OPC, as they cannot create demand on the system for 992.2, as yet, and the factory schedules production to fictitious demand.

It wouldn't be a problem in low interest rate environment... it is an increasing problem with the high interest rates.

Suppose the dilemma is whether the 992.2 will be ‘better’ than the 992.1 ?

Ordinarily, each new version of the 911 is better than the last, but often loses some of its original DNA in the process.

I recall, when the 992 was launched, quite a few people felt it had got bigger, more technical and driver assisted, and lost some of its soul.

Will this continue? Gather even the last remaining analogue dial - the rev counter - will be digital as the interior more closely matches the corporate Taycan/Panamera/Cayenne layout.

Of course it will be better ... as it is in every iteration, but of course some of us might prefer the older derivative.

I wanted 992 C2S ... couldn't get it, so I bought 992 T and I love it to the point that I an no longer convinced I need a C2S, so I ordered Targa 4S.
However, I am not that excited about hybrids, so I may give it a swerve and ride fossil-fuel wave until proper EV 911 comes out in 5 years or so.

I’ve heard conflicting predictions about when this will be launched and builds will commence.

There is a prediction that it will be shown at The Geneva Show in only 6 weeks time - with production commencing in the spring. Others say after summer.

A good indicator would be 992.1 build slots that anyone may have in the forthcoming months.

What is the latest build anyone has for a 992.1 T, S, GTS ?

I cancelled a late UK March 992 T slot, believe early April slot was available in Germany & Switzerland, then no more.

Had it on very good authority that the 992.2 will be released for ordering in July. Carrera base will be NA engine, GTS will be released at the same time.
