My first Porsche (well, gotta start somewhere)
Discussion
Absolutely unbelieveable.
If I may say so, this kind of behaviour displays a simply staggering lack of concern for your fellow Pistonheaders on the Porsche forum, .
I've reported you to the mods for the following posting infringements :
No discussion about how best to finance it. FAIL
No discussion about the best spec for resale. FAIL
No "talk me into/out of buying it" type discussion. FAIL
No discussion about what it will be worth in 1 year, 5 years and 10 years if you just garage it and polish it until the decals are worn away. FAIL
No discussion on the pros and cons of contrast stitching. EPIC FAIL. This alone is grounds for a lifetime ban from PH imo.
No discussion as to whether it's worthwhile chucking £50K's worth of Manthey kit at it. FAIL
No discussion as to what colour/spec other people on here think you should buy. FAIL
(not to mention a simply breathtaking lack of courtesy to other regular PH Porsche forum users)
As I said, I've contacted the moderators and asked them to ban you for behaviour unbecoming of the PH Porsche forum.
I hope you enjoy your car, but next time at least have the decency to enter into the spirit of things and let others on here influence what you purchase.
The sheer audacity, absolutely unbelieveable ...
(walks off, head shaking and muttering to self)
Not many would choose an RS as their first Porsche (I did)
Congratulations

Damn son.
And that is how you do it.
Congratulations
Did you test drive one beforehand and got the bug or just always knew you wanted one?
I knew I wanted one since the 996 RS came out. I'd driven rented 991.2 Carreras (S and GTS) so I had a good idea how it would drive, ergonomics etc. I'd been out in a couple but never driven a GT3 or RS. The rentals were in Germany so this is actually the only Porsche I've ever driven in the UK.And that is how you do it.
Congratulations

Congratulations!!
I think that’s the ex autobahn car where the owner was involved in various meets etc and has upgraded to a new RS. Anytime I’ve seen the car, it was always absolutely immaculate. Enjoy.
It is indeed Donald's old car. Someone else had it between January and August this year. It is indeed in great shape and a credit to him.I think that’s the ex autobahn car where the owner was involved in various meets etc and has upgraded to a new RS. Congrats Adrian. That is indeed a spectacular first Porsche. What a superb choice. I think you've swooped-in and claimed 'best PH post of the year'. Hard to see what could top that. As others have said, how refreshing, too. Man buys mental, bright green Porsche; doesn't mention the price, just gets in, drives it. Thank you. The end.

The modern public hand wringing, choosing spec/buying by committee was very much the exception on PH 15 plus years ago. Now it’s the tedious norm unfortunately.Don’t get me wrong, if someone was making their first foray into the Porsche world, this place was brilliant, with lots of really useful contributions from very knowledgeable owners and/or former owners, but there was never any talk or indeed 200+ page threads on resale values, the best spec for resale, the best trim specs etc etc.
They were halcyon days ... and this thread is as you’ve rightly highlighted, a brief and welcome break from all that nonsense.
Of course some will say, if you’re not interested in those threads, don’t read them.
And to them I say, I don’t, but because of the dearth of threads such as this one, this forum is now slim pickings for the many real enthusiasts that used to reside on here.
Agreed with the above from Slippydiff. I’m looking at purchasing my first Porsche and hoping to gain some first hand knowledge from this forum.
Don’t care about residuals, it’s going to be in my garage for many years. Lots to get your head round when it comes to this marque it seems.
Well done again OP.

Porsche 911 GT3 RS 991.2 by AdrianFRST, on Flickr
Gave the filters a bit of a clean:
Due to the side intakes gravel and leaves etc make their way into the airbox:
BMC on the RS rather than just paper:
Also picked up a Cargraphic centre section for a decent price, excuse the misaligned/missing clamps, I took the photo before I'd finished the install.
Over-torquing from the factory (bent bolt) plus a few Scottish winters (rust) had seen one of the brackets refuse to come off, so out with the Dremel.
I checked the price of replacement brackets before doing so, and they're not too bad at £80 odd each, unlike the clamps that hold the cats to the side boxes, £200 each!
I also disconnected and plugged the vacuum lines for the valves to ensure they stay open. It's really brought it to life, but still too quiet for my tastes so looking at side deletes or a JCR Race Pipe in the spring.

Yes, Rennlist has a ton of info on. I've recently finished a 70 page thread on aftermarket exhausts on there and there's some really useful guides and tips. Speaking of which...Gave the filters a bit of a clean:
