A bit of an odd one hopefully people can give me a good view on!

I have a 2019 992 C2S that I’ve owned for just over a year. End of last year I noticed the near side rear was losing about 1PSI in pressure a week. Was topping up as have a compressor but it was a concern although I only do about 50 miles a week at present. The rear tyres were well worn so in March I had them both replaced through a local garage supplied via Blackcircles (P Zeros matching the fronts which had loads of tread).

I thought there may have been a slow puncture and it would be resolved but there is still pressure loss at a virtually identical rate.

Given it’s clearly not the tyre what could it be?

I’ve done some research and it seems to be pointing at the valve or the bead. Is there an effective way to check? I’m planning on taking it into the garage to get them to have a look but would be good to have an idea of what it is.

Thanks!

David W.

The people I use would ordinarily fit a new valve when fitting a new tyre. This is different if you have tyre pressure sensor system and the leak could be from them needing re seating. They also clean the rim so bead sits properly on it. Otherwise you could have a tiny crack in the rim somewhere. All leaks should be identifiable by over inflation and submersion in a tank of water, crude but effective. HTHs.

I had a similar issue on my previous 911. In my case it was a loose valve insert, easily tightened with a little valve key, or you can get a replacement for a few £ from the parts counter. It's worth a try as it's such an easy check/fix.

If you're still losing pressure after a new tyre has been fitted, did they replace the valve with the tyre? Standard practice to replace valve, unless perhaps you have TPMS?
If you're losing pressure you probably should investigate a porous or cracked wheel or a leaking valve / sensor. I'd bet on a cracked wheel.

Thanks for the replies.

I have TPMS so doubt they replaced the valve. They didn’t mention any cracks either. Will get the valve looked at first I think.

I've used washing-up liquid before to discover where a wheel was losing air.

If not a puncture, leaking valve or cracked wheel would be my guess.
You can get refresh kits for valves, but as it’s a 992, it’s unlikely to be a perished valve. Perhaps a loose valve stem tho- so worth checking this as a first cheap check and fix - the less palatable option is a cracked wheel.

On an old car with steel wheels, I’d also throw in corrosion on the rim causing a poor seal into the mix, but unlikely on a 992!!

I had a similar problem on my car, it transpired that there was a screw deep within the tread pattern that was hard to spot.

Do you have a tub big enough to put the whole wheel under water and look for bubbles from valve, rim or tyre bead?
Or a swimming pool wink

I don’t even have a jack to get the car in the air to get the wheel off!

I had a rear left on a Taycan leaking and it turned out to be the tyre bead leaking slightly, that’s a first for me…
