Good job Paul

I think I responded to a previous post when you were thinking about this.

I too went from Ferrari to both then just Boxster Spyder, they are great bundles of pure fizz and fun.

I hope it's great for you too.

Enjoy in good health
Ed

As you know I sold my Spyder earlier in the year and have now got the retention certificate back from DVLA so if anyone has an interest in the plate drop me a message before I advertise it . I have a couple of different sets of 3D plates made up with Porsche logo postcode on the plates .

Looking for a bit of advice guys, I'm currently looking at 981 Spyder for over the summer. Can anyone help with the following:

1. Thoughts on folding buckets without heated seats? Financial suicide?
2. I'm hoping for a 991.2 GT3 later this year and would be selling the Spyder if/when the GT3 arrives, any idea of what I should be looking to pay and what kind of depreciation (if any) I would be looking at over the next 6-12 months.
3. Any other must have specs to look out for?

Thanks all.

1: There is a bum for every seat, so buy at the price you are happy with , any thing else is moot as every one will have an opinion on what the car spec should be.

2: no one knows future values/ if you use it the price will drop, if you keep it in the garage the price will prob stay the same, miles is key to value.

3: see 1, and 2

1. Buckets whether heated or not are very desirable....a car with buckets but no seat heating would be much more desirable than one with the normal seats in my book.
2. Depreciation will be driven mostly by how you go about selling it i.e. Privately, SOR, Trade in that order. Decent chance you can sell privately I reckon especially if it has a decent amount of OPC warranty left. I think if anything the cars will probably gain a bit in value this year, they sell very quickly.
3. If you can get a PTS car in a great colour go for it!

1. The folding buckets were 'free' on the Spyder whereas the 918 buckets were c £1600+ from memory and imo not worth this extra (only £400ish extra on the GT4) on the Spyder especially as they cannot be heated. I like many others would never buy a convertible without heated seats and would expect to pay much less for a Spyder without them. A classic case of this optional extra being worth many times the initial cost new.

2. You mention you may be getting a GT3 later this year....good luck as it appears as previously mentioned 2017 will see the majority of OPCs receiving the first run of c only 5 PDK cars, the remaining c 8 to 10 will be 2018 cars.

As we approach Spring proper and early summer the prices of Porsche will rise as they always do when the warmer weather arrives and cabriolets understandably will see the biggest rises. Unless you can secure a car relatively quickly you will therefore be buying at top price and depending on when you GT3 arrives this will probably mean selling after August which is traditionally past peak time for cabriolet demand and prices as autumn approaches. Can't imagine the Spyder will drop much however as there are only a limited number around especially at the right spec.

3. Apart from heated seats, PCM is crucial to residuals, although perhaps not quite as crucial as with the GT4. A car without PCM is worth considerably less than the cost of the PCM option new.

I really don't understand the heated seats are essential in a convertible? yes if the seats are all leather but this would also be true of a coupe but with the alcantara centres the seats never feel cold as such and cooler than leather in the summer!
As for PCM I do not think it is essential and more so as the cars get older! My old spyder had PCM and I really don't think it mattered or added any value come resale and that is the same 7-8 year old PCM in the gt4 and 981 spyder!

Fair enough I agree PCM matters less as cars age but here we are talking about reselling the 981 Spyder which will be just max c 2 years old.

It is no coincidence that the cheapest 981 Spyder on the OPC list is not only the lowest mileage but has no PCM ( admittedly also no buckets btw ).

No buckets and no leather are the biggest resell killers imo on the spyder/gt4!

Surely you agree a heated seat is designed to heat you as well as the seat face? Most will keep one on long after the seat has warmed up..... smile

I had heated seats in my 987.1 CS and they were great for warming cold seats but I would switch them off after a short while, yes I agree that heated seats keep you warm but the alcantara is a good material for keeping one warm and not cold to sit on in low temperatures first thing but as I mentioned heated seats would be essential if leather seats specd

Just to add I picked my 987 spyder up on a New Year's Eve in almost sub zero temperatures and drove home 230 miles and not once thought I needed heated seats !

I dont agree on a 981 spyder about the chairs vs buckets. Seems more an issue on the focused GT4 but looking at the spyder sales in opc they seem to sell easy enough as there are folk like me that want the spyder for a bit of touring comfort. Im not saying the buckets dont look better and maybe in the future they will be more essential like it seems on a 987 but time now they sell ok.

Perhaps somewhat differently from the GT4, the Spyder appeals on an aesthetic/image/uniqueness level as much (more?) than a dynamic one. Obviously the 3.8 engine gives it extra dynamic (and rarity) appeal. Lets be honest its projected lightweight/stripdown persona is a load of BS.

So depending on whether its buyers perceive it as boulevard cruiser or (albeit somewhat bogus) sporting lightweight will determine the buckets/chairs split and secondhand desirability.

I think the 981 spider has no rivals at it's price point , worth all the money. Sure the spec from car to car will differ , but they all sound amazing , and look amazing.
Is hard to spec a car like this from new , as you do tend to change your mind!. I was torn on the colour , white, black or red and many other options on the car.
Priceless is the feeling the car gives me when I drive it.makes all my hard work worth it.
Having this car in the garage is a bit like having miss world in an upstairs bedroom , and you can nip up to see her for an hour a week!
