Boxster Spyder
Discussion
I was told that the PECs car will be available from 10th July and managed to book a space (which I then gave away)!...
Yes that would be great to see in the flesh. I am not convinced they will have a 981 Spyder at the PEC before September. My drive is booked for late July but if there is no 981 then I will happily drive something else 'interesting'.

It seems all quiet on the Spyder front.
Any news?
Enquired yesterday when I was in OPC. They had no new news whatsoever and were surprised to hear that the PEC were getting a car mid July.Any news?
Hopefully viewing a car at Goodwood this week (pre production I believe) and then a drive at PEC third week in July. Difficult to keep my enthusiasm up for the new car, especially when I enjoy every mile I drive in my 987 version.
Is it really worth swapping I keep asking myself!

Are you sure the Boxster Spyder is going to be at Goodwood ??
I'm heading there on Friday, but I can only see that a GT4 and 918 Spyder advertised as being there.
This is one deep undercover motor !!!
I'm really not sure. Just basing my expectation on what a couple of posters have said on the other forum.I'm heading there on Friday, but I can only see that a GT4 and 918 Spyder advertised as being there.

Apparently the blue one is also on its way there tonight and will be used on the hill tomorrow.
Look forward to photos from those who get to see them in the flesh.
I assume that's Sapphire Blue.
I've dismissed it quite early on but it does look good. I beginning to think that this car will look good in most colours.
And yes the residuals on the Spyder are now out and it would appear they have learnt from the 897 Spyder.

For any doubters that 3.8 sounds on par with Ferrari pleasure
Really…..which Ferrari engine? V8/V10/V12 etc etcI'd rather it not be too shouty TBH. Had a 911 Carerra GTS for a day recently and found the exhaust note annoying in the end, just unnecessarily loud from a 6 cylinder engine and didn't sound genuine. I ended up switching off the PSE. It wasn't as enjoyable as the 987 Spyder PSE note.
Car looked and sounded great.
I see Mr Demon deleted his last post in true forum warrior climb-down style, but the 458 comparison is not quite as silly as you might think from the brief bit I heard.
It's not going to sound like 458 of course as it's a Porsche with a completely different engine/exhaust design with less cylinders to fill those pipes with music, but at low revs I know what the animal means as it has that sort of meaty / deep sound (rather than screamy 360/355) that the post F430-model ferraris have at lower revs. A thick bassy sound if you will..... Obviously check the GT4 videos. It is never going to develop to a climax like the Ferrari V8s do at high revs.
I was surprised how loud it seemed to be, which for me coming from a shouty 360 spider is important! Obviously I don't know what the ECU/valve programming will be, so it remains to be seen how it sounds as a driver on the road (EU regs lead!), but I was very pleasantly surprised as the 987.2 DFI always sounded a bit naff/wheezy/hairdryer to me.
After chatting with Beaver and his friend about my "colour anxiety"(!) I'm now convinced that the classic colours or PTS are the way to go.
The sapphire looked way better than I thought, but it was pointed out that the "modern" colours may not be good in the long run.
Red, white/metallic white, dare I say yellow (but not for me personally) or GT silver are all going to look amazing on this car (better than sapphire IMO) before we even get to the PTS colours.
Having seen them in the flesh now I'm going to have the steering column in leather as it looked cheap in plastic. Painted roll-over hoops look confused IMO (the weakest part of the car is all the plastic and lines around that section, IMO).
I like the shape, don't see any issues with it - it's stunning, in fact. The front looks incredible - aggressive/purposeful and all the other cliches.
Funny, for all the conversations about weight, had an interesting chat with Daro911 about how a Porsche test driver was saying it's largely marketing. Pick the spec you want to live with folks and ignore Mr Demon banging on about weight etc - it won't make much difference according to someone who can achieve lap times...
It's how the gearing and the steering feel that will make or break this car for me. At least it has more torque to compensate for the long gearing, but this will clearly be the weakness.
Can't wait!

I deleted my last post as the post above it was deleted saying it sounded like a 458 lol, so don't be so quick to point a finger until you know the reason why ;-)I see Mr Demon deleted his last post in true forum warrior climb-down style, but the 458 comparison is not quite as silly as you might think from the brief bit I heard.
