I also got one of the Porsche guys to start up one of the other cars on the paddock and it is very very nice sound. For those of us who managed to get one, we are very lucky indeed.
Agree. I was next to the Mayfair car when it was started and revved a bit before it was driven into the showroom

sounded authentic, mechanical, loudish and not synthetic.

was impressed with the raspiness too.

Can't wait to drive it next month then, I thought the 987 sounded pretty good, with sports exhaust that is.

Think 981 boxster S with x73 suspension and a 3.8 lump! But remember a 3.4 Spyder/ BS peak power is at 7400 rpm whereas the 981 Spyder peaks at 6700rpm so not as revvy .
So then compare the 987 Spyder with the 981 boxster which many prefer the 987 for purer driving feel ( no electric steering etc)and how you feel about said cars.
What I am trying to get at the information is out there in a. X73 based 981 on how the car feels like to drive albeit with a less powerful engine bit like saying drive a 2.7 and you get an idea how the 3.4 (same suspension/wheel size)will drive/handle albeit more power!
Personally and for one who secured a 981 Spyder (1st on list at OPC)I choose the 987 Spyder which is plenty fast enough for anyone and IMHO the prettier car and long term ie 20 years will be more sort after!(flame suit on)
Yes I am getting a gt4 which has a 3.8 but is a totally different animal and I want a coupe otherwise I would stick with what I have but that is not to say I do not think the 981 Spyder is a not a nice car it is but !

I think the 987 and 981 Spyders are very hard to compare. I was slightly worried that the 987 looks much better, but having seen the 981 in the flesh, I think they are equals. I think it's hard for anyone to really understand how good the 981 looks until they have seen it in the flesh and heard it. Video/photos do not do it justice. I'm lucky enough to be keeping the 987 so don't have to make what would otherwise be a very difficult decision. I think the comparison to a GT4 is pointless - different cars - and I can't help feeling that people who continue to make those comparisons (whilst doing down the 981 Spyder) are trying to justify their decisions in their own minds...?

I agree you cannot compare gt4 with 981 Spyder although they share the same DNA !likewise there is no point comparing gt4 with the CR but the 987/981 Spyder I think it's a different story and comparisons can be made.Hence I struggled with the idea of swapping my 987 Spyder for a 981 Spyder but switching to a gt4 was easier as its a different kind of car altogether..If I could afford to keep my car and purchase a gt4 I would and have the perfect garage .

That's a tough choice you've made (I thought you were keeping the Spyder). The GT4 will be epic - but I personally need the open-air nature of a Spyder and that's why I always find it difficult to compare them.

I think with a Spyder its not all about the engine power it's much more than that! porsche could have built a tuned revvy 2.7 with say. 325hp ,lightweight ie 1275kg ,sports suspension and still it would be a great car!
Put it another way if the 981 and 987 Spyder had the same engines but the 981 had a slight power increase say 10 hp would those with the 987 Spyder be swapping out!NO

That yellow car at Goodwood looks fantastic....and personally I am no fan of yellow.

What the majority of GT4 fanbois fail to grasp is that this restricted run Spyder will be the last of the normally aspirated cars whereas the far more ubiquitous GT4 will be replaced and outclassed by a 'better' model.....

I love my Spyder but I also love coupes more than soft tops but the Spyder is something else and a very special car hence I bought one over a CR but the gt4 is something else but will I miss my Spyder?this I do ponder sometimes as it's not all about out right speed and pace hence why I would keep my 987 over a 981 Spyder

Yes, rumour has it he has indeed scurried off for his audition, however I have it on good authority that he'll be back in time to correct us all on our specificafion choices, and to justify his GT4 order in the process.

He won't get the job of course, certainly not after telling Chris he has the wrong seats in his GTO and the camber can't be moved anymore without RSS links.

Oh, he got the job.

Sadly, his first day didn't go too well. Someone :cough::cough: forgot to tell him to get out the caravan that got rolled off the cliff.

On a positive note: Cayman R, Boxster Spyder, and GT4 (allocation) for sale biggrin

WHy are you not posting in your new SELOC home ?

The Porsche pull is strong though, you must be missing it already esp the build and cannot keep away it seems

PS what is a RSS link ?
