Pretty much every review mentions the long gearing, I didn't like it much in a Boxster S I had as a loaner so this remains the only downside for me.

The sum of everything else will I'm sure more than compensate.

Yep. Like I said the gearing will likely be the weak point (again, pedantically challenged by our resident troll), followed by the fact the steering is electric. For me the roof is clearly going to be a lot less hassle than the old car so it will probably be a non-issue.

Every car is a compromise in my experience. For example, I love my 360 spider but it is far from perfect. The 430 is a "better" car but sounds worse and has a worse looking rear end in my opinion.

At least with the Boxster Spyder we have a little more torque than the other 981 iterations to slightly make up for the long gearing a little?

In years to come once these cars are out of warranty there will be aftermarket solutions to this issue, either with the final drive gear (cheap-ish, obviously lowering top speed) or changing gearbox (expensive). GT3 owners already alter the final drive sometimes as Gert from Carnewal has told me about:

As expected now confirmed there will be no Spyder PEC car for July and most of August. Rescheduled for early September but unconvinced they will have a right hand drive until October tbh. Only consolation is now booked the 4.0 RS GT3 for my original July date. driving
Just heard from PEC that they are expecting to have Spyders for first week in August.

That's a nice spec.

I am personally not a fan of black wheels as they disappear in my opinion. I went for satin platinum as I think it will hide brake dust (not going ceramic) and look modern.

I know I've banged on about this but tonally platinum is so much more interesting than gloss black... it's a no-brainer.

I think the Black wheels work better with White the Platinum although nice add another colour to the mix, keeping mine White and Black

Taken from an article on the 911 going to 4 pot turbos, you'll love this from Walter Rohrl:

"But no matter how good a turbo engine is, it can never have the pure response of a naturally aspirated engine. This is the reason I bought a Boxster Spyder, because engines like this won't be made anymore."

http://jalopnik.com/real-talk-from-walter-rohrl-on...

"At least it's not a four-cylinder turbo like in the next Boxster. That sounds like a Volkswagen Beetle, I'm not kidding you! I tell the guys, 'You're joking with this sound, right?' But they just say they are working on it. I'm sure they will get it right."

I said this before the 981 Spyder was launched.......the na engine will be the last of the line as turbos are introduced across the range for 'non GT' cars. So unlike the GT4 etc this relatively 'analogue' Spyder could well have relatively instant 'classic status' in a similar but greater way than say the. 911 997 GTS with its hydraulic steering etc. Interesting reading about respected journos thoughts on driving the 488 Ferrari and how it appears to have lost some na charisma....awesome carthough it undoubtedly is. Long term, thats why a 458 Speciale has classic status in spades, too....driving

Yes. Now is the time to take your pick of the N/A engined cars.

I'd certainly be looking at buying a 458 over the 488 as you say.

IMO both 981 and 987 spyders will be classics as long as we are allowed to drive them on the road/until combustion engines cars become like cigarettes.

Thanks, the 458 Spider is Bianco Fuji, which is a special pearl whit Ferrari did for the 599 GTO.

To my mind, 360 is too close chronologicaly to the 458, it'll just feel not as good, you need to go older to get a classic Ferrari feel hence my 308GTB.
