Ah , now there's an idea ! I guess all that focus on the RS meant I somehow missed the boat on the Spyder - I have to say it looks like it will be a fun car.

At the risk of being very lazy is anyone willing to give me an idiots guide to the Spyder - can't quite face trawling through the whole thread , all the articles ,etc - I guess it would be good to know what one needs to know in a nutshell - much appreciated if someone is willing to help smile

'
Something along the lines of a Boxster GTS with the addition of:

sport suspension (also available on GTS)
Detuned 3.8 from carrera s
Speedster humps on body
GT4 style front bumper
Lightweight manual roof
Steering rack from 991 911 turbo (shorter rack, smaller steering wheel)
Manual folding roof with electric latch
Bucket seats as standard option
A few other small weight reductions here and there

Watch the boxster GTS reviews as well as the spyder videos IMO to get a feel for what to expect.

I'm sure I've missed some bits, so others will fill in.

Cheers , when do deliveries start ? I assume allocation will be somewhere around 150/200 cars . Were they allocated to "preferred" customers (whatever that means) or was it just a case of being quick and on the ball pre announcement / day of announcement ?

I am really angry with myself for my lack of proactive approach on this as it looks like it will be a really honest ball of fun , congrats to everyone who's getting one , I hope everyone enjoys them - if however , after a bit , anyone fancies a change ? then please let me know so I can save you those excessive sale fees smile

I heard allocation was about 60-80 but may have got that wrong - most dealers in the UK seem to get about 2/3 cars and there's 34 dealers in the UK.

Funnily when I got told I could swap my GT3 for an RS and decided too I also said I wanted a Spyder as I loved my old one. I used the old one as a daily driver and really enjoyed that I could drive it with a degree of abandon. Not possible in a GT3.
Feels like you are copying me ;-)
I have had a Boxster S on loan as I had to give up my GT3 in July. The Boxster has a nice chassis but still feels under powered. The spyder has the power and is slightly lighter than the GT4. I also like that the tyres are not as wide as the GT4's which should make it looser. The manual is supposed to be sublime and also there are more colour choices ( let's face it the GT3 RS was a colour fiasco.
I get my spyder in October and the GT3 in November - I am excited by both.

Hi there , I wish I was copying you as then I too , would be as happy as a pig in poop - I couldn't think of two cars that would be more fun : one very big , serious and scary - an engineering masterpiece and the other a compact , powerful , mid engined thing that screams bundles of honest fun ! You are a very , very lucky man . Don't get me wrong , I am super excited about the RS and I know I'm very lucky to be allocated one . I realise this post makes me sound a bit ungrateful , which I'm honestly not - I just think they are two amazing things - opposites in loads of ways , but perfect examples of their kind smile

As I say is , anyone who has a change of heart about the Spyder - please PM me driving

You don't sound ungrateful, it is just that they are two different cars. The RS will get used but probably not daily. I put 6,000 miles on my GT3 in a year and put 20,000 on my spyder in one and a half years. I was not intimidated by my spyder - in fact it is one of my all time favourites - was just underpowered (so the new spyder should be perfect). I was intimidated by my GT3 on the road (not on the track) as I had to readjust my thinking about visibility on country roads as the speed is just so high.
The car you put most miles on really matters and I think the Spyder is perfect for that - right balance of power, weight and grip from what I have read.

Just heard there is now a six week delay on the Sports Buckets.

Spoken to my OPC and he has stated he was advised today that the Lightweight Buckets (P11) will cause a 4/5 weeks delay.

I spoke to dealer today who said NO delay on 918 bucket seats and car will be here in November! They had said previously there was 10 week delay in those seats.

This is my frustration with Porsche - why is there not one version of the truth!!

We're being strung along either by Porsche or the dealer.

There is clearly a supply issue with both p3 and p11 buckets as both now removed from the GT4 configurator.

I get the impression that they really don't know when the cars are coming. Perhaps it's a new strategy to make us appreciate our cars more. Personally, I would be happy to wait until the middle of next year so not really that bothered either way but a bit of certainty would be good.

Ditto.

Now's not the great time to get a new car and really enjoy it. Spring next year suits me just fine BUT I've spec. it with an April+ delivery time in mind. If the dealer or Porsche are being pessimistic and they suddenly call and say 'good news your cars coming two months early' I'd not be able to afford the spec. I have. So like you Spy it would be nice to have a fix delivery date, whenever it might be.

Hi “douglasgdmw” thanks for advice on Alcantara buckets.

Hi “daro911” am I correct in my understanding that you have managed to order full leather (a special order option) for your stranded folding “Sports Bucket Seats” (option P03) i.e. the center of the seat is not Alcantara but Leather?

If so is there a code or explanation on your Vehicle Order Form?

I ask this as when I asked my OPC if full leather seats (as well as other areas which are Alcantara) were available and I was told that they were not!

I would appreciate any help in this matter as I do have reservations about the durability of Alcantara compared with Leather.

I find the alcantara steering wheel on Porsche GT cars inferior to the no cost option smooth finish leather. Alcantara is also prone to fade in sunlight and wears prematurely too so specced leather wheel and gear lever for mine.

I cannot understand why some feel the need to remove the alcantara seat centres especially on buckets and steering wheel rim and replace with leather? I feel it's part of what makes as spyder/R /gt car feel special as I found every time I got into my spyder! It never gets hot like leather in summer and cold like leather n winter so no need to add heated seats!
