Now that I've had a blast in the new Spyder at PEC yesterday, I can't wait to get my hands on mine. As a previous Spyder owner covering 11,000 miles in 3 years and a current 981 S owner, I'm in a good position to leave some feedback.

Performance is in a completely different league to old Spyder and 981 S. The engine spins freely to 7,500 RPM and you notice the extra torque and power as soon as you give it half throttle. Up the main straight of the new handling circuit a 991 GTS with PDK did not increase the gap at any point. Very impressive and sounds awesome in sport plus.

Brakes are fantastic and pedal feel is excellent. Couldn't fault them and glad I didn't commit the extra money for ceramics.

The new steering set up feels much more direct than my current 981 S and I couldn't fault it for feel. In my experience I can't say that the old Spyder offers anything extra in feedback.

Ride quality was better than my 981 S which also has 20" alloys.

I found that the confidence the new Spyder inspires enabled me to put it anywhere I wanted on the track, with the same planted feel and quick turn in that the old Spyder provided. The back end is very playful and controllable. It felt a big step up from my current car. The new smaller steering wheel and gear lever did help improve the enjoyment of feeling that I was involved in the experience.

The only negative I could find was that it looked very plain and unispiring in silver metallic with silver wheels. Having now seen the Spyder in the flesh in silver, white metallic and yellow, I'd say it was very colour sensitive. I'm very happy that I've plumped for white (non metallic) with black wheels.

Only a couple of months to go until mine arrives.

Thanks for review - was it Rhodium or GT Silver? I really like the look of this but only seen in picture so far...

Sticking with white I think.
Is anyone considering getting decals for the side similar to the 987 ??

At first I was thinking that I would be straight round to a detailers to get some decals added, but after my PEC morning I realised it was a different, dare I say more grown up car and didn't need or suit any graphics. I'm thinking I want a different car and not to make my new Spyder just like my old one.

Still think the car needs some decals.

I think I might agree with that rational, will see how it goes.

I think the decals look a bit odd on the 981 - the classic 'PORSCHE' decal needs a flat surface all the way along the side of the car (IMHO). Also, the car does not come with a decal - i feels a bit too much 'aftermarket'. However, having said that, I'm considering having the black 'flaps' that anchor the roof painted in body colour.

I agree - this was my view after seeing the GT Silver car amongst all the other colours / models at PEC.

I have owned a GT Silver car before and it's a classy colour, but silvers can be a bit boring. I think I'd probably go for rhodium if going silver, in fact.

My favourite colours are white, red or a PTS colour. The car is able to handle a bold colour.
