the mistake from dealers was specing the cars back up and putting back in chairs and turbo wheels along with PDKmay as well have a normal Boxster.
True to spec cars are a rare and mega drive, and why it's the longest I have ever owned a car. Porsche won't make a car like the 987.2 Spyder again.
It's a real back to basic in a modern era car. the 1st non 911 classic in many many years

You might have a point on the wheels as weight there isn't a good idea, but I've driven Spyders with sport seats? Not the end of the world. They are still a large cut above a stock 987.2! Also, while for me it takes the fun out of the car and makes me drive too fast, some people like PDK so it's a shame they didn't offer it this time.may as well have a normal Boxster.
Just had my first look at the new spyder in the metal. Kindly a salesmen working late let me in. Went to have a look at the two 991 GT3 RS in the showroom but saw the metallic black spyder. My fiancée may have seen a red one also earlier in the day on the road but it could have been a 918, the way it was described.
I wasn't sure from the pictures about the new spyder, I didn't think the rear humps were as prominent as on the 987. I must say though, it looks the business in the metal, really impressed with it.
I had a little moment walking back to the spyder that it suddenly looked dated... But I'm still enjoying the ownership and like not chasing the latest thing. The drive back home also made me think that I really don't need anything more.
Congratulations to the new spyder owners, the car looks great. Reading the reviews it sounds great to drive also.

Slightly boring, but what paint protection are owners thinking of going for if at all? I'm tempted to just do a detail once in a while and put some film on the rear arches (have heard these are a stone chip spot?), accepting that the front bumper will be peppered over the years. Guards red shouldn't be as hard as some colours to match.
Gtecniq crystal serum looks interesting but a bit scary doing that to brand new paint!

Why scary ? I had it professionally applied to one of mine and it feels like silk and makes the car really easy to clean - expensive but really good IMHO Gtecniq crystal serum looks interesting but a bit scary doing that to brand new paint!

I had ventureshield applied to front vallance, wing mirrors , sills and front of rear arches when my Spyder was new in 2010. This has worked well. You might find applying to sills a bit strange, but it has saved a lot of scuffs on the inner sill when getting in and out of car in restricted spaces. My one regret is that I didn't have it applied to rear of rear wheel arches - as you say they are very vulnerable to "gravel rash"

Once you do this I think you invalidate your paintwork warranty with Porsche (correct me if I'm wrong), and it means that a smart repair on the paintwork isn't so easy I think?WG said:

Ah , I see - didn't think about this - you may be right ? The car I did it on is 22 years old so I think the warranty may have expired W12JFD said:
250 miles around North Wales today taking in the Evo Triangle and the best B roads with very little traffic. I can honestly say it's the best road car I've owned by a serious margin.
All the comments regarding tall gearing and only using first and second are utter rubbish - clearly I've not been bouncing off the rev limiter but it's a wonderful gearbox and short shifting at 6k rpm gives you the full spread of the box - it's a joy to use and even 'running in' is seriously rapid.
Given its smaller size and flowing direction changes I'd venture that the Spyder is quicker, in fact much quicker, than a GT3 on B roads. Although the torque figures are similar the lighter weight gives a big advantage, the noise is better and you have a soft top.
Still love GT3s on track though - I don't think the Spyder would see which way a 991 went!!
Good pic! I grew up in Porthmadog, think this shot is on the 'pass' leading up to snowdon just after Beddgelert?! All the comments regarding tall gearing and only using first and second are utter rubbish - clearly I've not been bouncing off the rev limiter but it's a wonderful gearbox and short shifting at 6k rpm gives you the full spread of the box - it's a joy to use and even 'running in' is seriously rapid.

Drove the pec car yesterday that was yellow with black wheels. Really looked good. Split the day between a 991 gt3 and a spyder.
Had the call yesterday from my dealer saying 2/3 more coming 2nd or 3rd qtr 2016 so I stuck down a deposit.
Colour for me will be GT silver or jet black both with satin palladium wheels which look great on yellow too.

Mines due in December but I don't have any garage space. If there are more cars coming in 2016 I may be up for a 'swap' of allocation if such thing is possible and someone wants a car earlier. I am speaking to dealer tomorrow but if anyone on here is interested my car is still speccable.

the extra cars are a bit like the GT4 extra cars !!!
NOT extra cars, just the 2nd batch of allocation !
just part of the 2 year numbers allocation ! and the 2nd batch were not allocated at launch.
ie GT4 was 129 cars then people went crazy and said loads more cars, but there were always going to be circa 200 cars !!
the new Spyder 85 cars , but shock horror more new cars, but there were always going to be circa 150 cars !!
