Out of curiosity, where are Boxster Spyders made?

Are they all Stuttgart or also in with other Boxsters at the VW plant in Osnabruck?
987 spyder was Stuttgart
981 spyder is Osnabruck
Wrong! Caymans are bult at Osnabruck, Boxsters are built at Stuttgart. (I was at the Factory in February)

The Porsche press release said 981 Boxsters would be built at both the mixed line at Stuttgart AND at the VW plant at Osnabruck.

I just wondered if the Spyders we're all at one?

Bertie, the info I was given at factory visit was as I quoted above. I think possibly earlier in 981 life they may have been produced at both sites and perhaps Spyder is a special case though I'd be surprised if they would split such a limited production run across two sites.

Not sure I like the fat assed double buttock look of the Spyder. 981 Boxster is better looking to my eyes. There's controversial for you!

Ooooohhh
Brave man !
I must admit I was undecided about the car
Fiddly roof and manual
But I was given a car so had to say yes

At the risk of staring a whole value thing (please let's not) I was wondering what a well specked original gen.1 version of the Spyder would have cost new - trying to understand potential residual value of the new version vs say the depreciation on a second hand 3 year old 991.1 C2S cab with < 15,000 miles on it - anyone got any thoughts ? - Cheers smile

I currently have a 2011 987 Spyder that listed at £61300 OTR and came with a £4570 discount £56730 brand new - currently 4000 miles and 3 concours places to date in 2014 & 15 so condition could be described as good as it gets on a used Spyder lick

You can do the final maths ;-)

1st Gen was badly marketed, far too many allocated to UK ie 237 cars for what was probably no more than a 150 max required so the allocation was way in excess of genuine demand mainly due to the 10% premium over an "S" for a car offering a lot less in creature comforts plus the roof was a real deal breaker for most daily users - Fast forward prior to the newbie arriving and the Porsche used car world finally smelt the coffee and woke up to the fact the Gen 1 Spyder was a real "classic Porsche drivers car" and as a used buy for circa £40k + today a real bargain £ for £ thrill for thrill factor

The price differential between a Gen 1 & 2 is looking likely to be a good £25/35K assuming the newbies can be sold on for circa there list price and of course no PDK option for those who like to paddle shift will hopefully help to firm up the 987's or even move them closer to original list prices again

The million $ top secret question on internet based rumour mill circa 125-150

If you go by dealer sales staff after a lot of reading between the lies its circa 120 plus cars as they claim some dealers got 2 cars! and others 4 so taking an average of 3.5 cars per dealer plus some press cars and PEC cars you get about 130 +

The final tally might be known one day when production has officially ended eek

They did get the launch of the 987 spyder wrong and it did have a slightly fiddly roof, but also the poor sales were a reflection of the economy at the time.

This time we have a frothy economy bubbling away with cheap money in the midst of an asset bubble, so you'd expect sales to be better from the get-go regardless of the product.

Anyone seen what the new spyders are going for now the supply has started? It seems GT4s are attracting quite a premium but not sure if spyders are also?
