The ride quality of the 981 Spyder is better than my 981 S with 20" alloys. Steering is a huge improvement and the extra torque makes it such a better car to drive already. Fingers crossed you secure one as they really are quite special to drive. I've always enjoyed my Edinburgh experience whilst dealing with Graeme and the service team. Really knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The black wheels look so much better in the flesh in my opinion too. Pictures don't do the car justice.
Interesting. I wouldn't have expected significant differences in terms of ride or steering from the S unless their was a difference in spec or tyre. True the spyder has a couple of tweaks which should improve the steering a bit. I'd be interested to know what spec your S had (standard/PASM/X73) vs the Spyder and what brand of tyre each used to see if there is a clue to the improvements there.
The seering is vastly changed with a 911 turbo rack and combind with the smaller steering wheel it feels so much sharper at any speed. I'll check the tyres on both cars tonight but my S rides on standard suspension.

A base level facelift boxster will also have more torque and better steering than this whole range !!

Some thing to think about if people like torque and steering feel :-)

You are in good form today. Happy to stick with the Spyder, and delighted to secure the last of the naturally aspirated Boxsters with more torque and better steering.

I'm wondering if it'll actually be more fun to drive than a GT4, similar or better power to weight ratio, narrower and less sticky tyres, and roof down noise experience ??

But Torque just to cover up the long gearing, The 981 range will go down in history as the worse steering feel cars with 987.2 far far better and the face lift 981.2 cars better !

SO on that note you get to keep the worse steering range of Cars Porsche have ever made ! ;-p

The GT4 and 981 Spyder are not a patch on the Cayman R or 987.2 Spyder if you are just after fun !

And there lies the issue in this range !

Nice feel good factor rock solid cars to drive though, but net results will be too fast for UK roads to get to that fun factor 100%

Should I listen to the voice of experience who probably hasn't driven both, unlike me? Let me assure you that if you own an old model 987 Spyder, and you trade up to a 981 Spyder, that you'll not regret it. I couldn't fault the latest Spyder during my PEC blast. Fabulous steering, grip, brakes and extra punch, especially top end. Perfect road car manners too. I'll happily stick with my new Spyder.

I guess you are not after usable fun at the limit with more feel and an alive drive , that's ok but I have to say what really is going on as not all new cars are better in every way ;-)

While you say it's a trade up to a 981 SPyder, it's a trade down in feel and in gearing. Darrel cancled his 981 SPyder after the PEC drive and is keeping his 987.2 car.
But then he comes from racing Caterhams and wants the alive feel the older car offers which no new car can even GT cars.

NO right and wrong, you just have to be honest what the car is and what it is not.

not just blanket say it's a better car every where 100% and a trade up.

I have been honest with my GT4 reviews vs the older cars, it's a shame others only state the better things not the down sides. that's a GT3 ownership trate ;-(

Hearing the same old rubbish from you just gets so boring.

At the moment people are getting their cars and are enjoying this, and there's you attempting to be this big rain cloud around it. Quite sad. Maybe get off the forum for a few weeks and take a break. I wish you well.

So how many of us buy cars to push to the limit? Not many I would think
The purpose is to have a great car that you enjoy driving at whatever level you want
I have no idea what torque is or rev limiters or gearing is as I just enjoy driving the cars ( I exaggerate but you get the point)

So the Spyder joins my 991 GT3 and I am very happy and VERY lucky

PH is a bit look at me, look at my new Ltd ed car you lot cannot get , how great am I ! it's also better than any other car before it and is 100% perfect.
People then post pics outside a massive house and massive custom garages etc and want every one to say how great it all is.

that seems more sad to me, just sayin :-)

I have no idea what you are saying either - I love cars and consider myself very lucky
What annoys me are the leaves in my swimming pool and the slippery surface on my tennis court - life has it's problems I can tell you !

Does it look good from another angle perhaps?

Maybe a front 3/4 shot so the ugly rump and umbrella top aren't so prominent?

Thanks - slight false alarm, as been told it will be collectable next week. It's in the country but not at the dealer, I've now been told!

P.S. Has your friend sold his 987 Spyder now?

whilst at work on day i had a call put through to me "its Porshe Bolton on the phone for you" we have a slot for a 981 Spyder for you if you what one. MMMMM No thanks, nice car but not for me. Perhaps of it was a PDK as an everyday cruiser that would be different, i will stick with my 987/2 Spyder thanks

I tend to agree with mrD on a number of points ie the steering not as feelsome and the gearing being a tad too long plus the old spyder being more of a drivers car but that is just my opinion and it does not make the new one a bad car in anyway but his latest post/rant makes him sound like a complete C*CK !just sayin:-)
Just for the record I don't live in a big house with a custom garage(but fair play to anyone who does) I am at the lower end of the property ladder!
