Boxster Spyder
Discussion
I think the Spyder can carry Vioer Green off, but I would say that!
I do agree on the black wheels though, that's just my choice. That's the beauty of Porsche. So many personalisation options.
I've gone with Platinum wheels and the leather steering column (but with silver stitching) like boxster7. God they look good.
Keep posting these pics guys. It's keeping me going until March

how do you like it compared to your 360?
Chalk and cheese, but similar power/weight. In the Spyder, the car is a beautiful sum of its parts perfectly working together - engine, chassis. Everything seems in balance. In the 360 it's undoubtedly the flat plane V8 that dominates - by comparison it feels raw, rough around the edges, laugh out loud...errrr... Loud.
The 360 has better wind management on the motorway, bigger cabin/slightly more comfort. There's something great about a screaming Ferrari V8 that nothing else can compare with. Especially as mine sings through challenge stradale pipes...
The Spyder is way tighter, harder suspension (but more sorted, less rattly), quieter engine/exhaust (but not road noise - 360 seems to have less tyre roar I think).
Both cars have light steering, the 360 probably gives you a little more information being hydraulic, but both are good in this area. The electric steering on the Spyder has been the biggest surprise of the car, as I was expecting not to like the steering as much as I do. In fact I would possibly go as far as to say if I hadn't have known, I probably wouldn't have noticed the change in technology and would have just thought it was lighter. It is notably lighter than the 987.1 I used to have.
Handling is more confident in the Spyder by a long shot over the 360 - you can confidently dig the weight into a corner in the Porsche, where as it's hard to know where the limit is in the Ferrari. This is what makes the Spyder so great.
The Spyder is like wearing a tight fitting glove compared to the slightly looser, more raucous big go-kart that the 360 is.
The 360 will now be driven as a special occasion car, with the Spyder being my main fun car now. The Ferrari is more of an event to drive still, not least because of the ridiculous noise.
I'll probably change the 360 for a 458 spider at some point in the next 18 months, but it'll never scream like the 355/360 do with their 5 valves per cylinder (even the better handling 430 has a less tuneful engine), and I'll be losing the lovely gated shift of the manual box in the 360.

Is that Viper Green? Wanted it on my GT4, but alas!I do agree on the black wheels though, that's just my choice. That's the beauty of Porsche. So many personalisation options.

Hi Folks, probably been asked a thousand times. As current Spyder has all been allocated; I guess I need to wait for the next incarnation. Do you think it will play out as 981 Gen 2 Boxster & S, then GTS Gen 2 & finally 981 Spyder Gen 2. Three years wait at least? Thoughts?
Sounds about right if there will be another Spyder.Andrew911 said:

The 2016 'gen 2' Boxster and Cayman are to be renamed 718 Boxster and Cayman with a 'role reversal' for each model so that the Boxster is priced above the Cayman thus making more money for Porsche for the better selling cabriolet. If there is another Spyder this will be around 3 years away with deliveries in the UK early 2019.
Whether the next Spyder remains normally aspirated remains to be seen, but as it technically isn t a GT car chances are the 718 Spyder if made will unfortunately be a 4 pot turbo.

thanks, I agree I miss the drama of the 430 engine but the Spyder is a great packageIn the Spyder, the car is a beautiful sum of its parts perfectly working together - engine, chassis. There's definitely a parts bin vibe to Ferrari of that era at least (quite convenient when you have to replace an ignition coil for example!), but it doesn't feel like a kit car to drive in my opinion. Definitely a vibe of the engine being the thing they perfected though!Akajak said:

Yes, I believe Porsches on the whole to be much "better" cars. But better isn't always best for certain things, is it!Porsches are just so sorted compared to Ferraris, and more practical for UK roads. I can't speak for post 430 though as haven't driven 458/488.

The new Spyder is actually very similar to a compact 458 Spider........throw in the 'manuel' gearbox and less intimidating dimensions overall especially reduced width and its actually a more usable drivers car for typical UK A and B roads imo...2010spy said:
Yep. Rhodium - looks cool.
It sounds amazing! They started it up alongside a new 991 911S with Sports Exhaust. Absolutely no comparison. It sounds brilliant - properly brilliant.
More pictures soon.
Was that next to a gen 2 991 - if so , I'm not surprised they've ruined the car by putting a stty turbo engine where a stunning sounding naturally aspirated lump should be - can't believe it . Either way , I have to agree the Spyder sounds awesome - yes , more picies please - I had a Rhodium silver 991 GT3 - in truth , I wasn't 100 % happy with the colour , but I think it suits the Spyder far better - enjoy
