Well here is me joining the Spyder club,up at 7.00 and flew down from the North East this morning and arrived home 12 hours later ! Many thanks to Daryl for selling me the car cant have been an easy decision.

Quick review from my experience today, I had never actually seen a Spyder in the flesh til today so really didn't know what to expect, I have a 63 plate 3.4S manual already which is a great car and I sort of presumed the Spyder would be just the same with a bit more power but this really is on another level, have to say it surpassed all expectations. , Its actually hard to believe its based on the same car, its a much more track focussed car, much stiffer, the brakes have loads more bite, Steering feels much better, turns in sharper, gearshift is much shorter and feels much improved and I think the best bit the exhaust noise, my 3.4s has PSE but this is better again ! , although I do think they will struggle on noise levels on track.

Couple of things I thought I would be disappointed with but actually wasn't , my S has Bose where this one has SPP and the music is actually pretty good and to be honest If it wasn't I would forgive it as the car makes a better noise with the radio turned off, no heated seats this was a biggie for me as Im always cold but with Alcantara I do not think its going to be an issue , the interior is red/grey which in Pictures I was edging towards black as I wasn't brave enough to spec red but it looks really well in the flesh and think now given the choice I would actually pick it over black , CWM, I would still prefer standard white. the Wind noise from the hood must say was a bit of a surprise, the S has none it just feels like being a tintop very well insulated where as the Spyder has none and the wind noise and outside noise level reminds me of the rare occasion I had the hood on my R500 caterham ! saying that It will never have to do another 320 mile motorway stint so will never be an issue again.

So all good so far.. I will get some more better pics once I get it cleaned up.

If I hadn't passed freeze point, I would definetly have changed my wheel colour thanks to you.

The order process is one of the highlights of buying new, enjoy.

What did you go for....body and wheel?

I was going to go black on the GT4 but missed the cut off so was forced into platinum. Have to say when I saw the car in the flesh I was more than happy with the way platinum looked. What it does mean is that I have unfinished business with black wheels so in the end had to have them on the Spyder - no matter how much I wanted to convince myself into silver!!

well after owning my current car I thought I was pretty clear what I wanted in a car and what I didn't need and on that basis this was the spec that I originally wanted, not a massive spec but all that I wanted and sent off to Newcastle Porsche , but all irrelevant as after phoning half the OPC in the country was told was little to no chance of getting a build slot anyway .this was what I ideally wanted http://cc.porsche.com/icc_euro/ccCall.do?userID=EN...

buying used was always going to be a compromise but in my head it had to be flat white and what I have ended up with to be fair is nothing like what is above, different colour body/interior /wheels no bose/nav or heated seats, but im still as happy as a pig in sh*t , the car I have ended up was a more expensive build spec than what I wanted , like I said I wouldnt have gone for red trim, when I was looking for my S I was adamant I wasnt having boring black leather again, I had owned Bmw M3 V8 with red leather and that looked well, but Boxster S with full red interior is just awful, everything is red carpets , steering wheel, mats the lot so I ended up with safe black, so I was going to go the same way again but must say the two tone red trim on the Spyder looks a lot different with the grey alcantara it really breaks it up would also say it works well with white and black body colour not so sure on some other colours , would have preferred carbon dash inlays this has silver, I can easily change this though although suspect I wont. this car has the Full buckets they are quite upright which i noticed soon as I jumped in the car but half an hour in to the journey I was fine, reverse camera something I wouldnt have ordered but its good, my Mrs will like it ! wheels in black which I wasn't going for but again they are fine , I think the long and short is you can get carried away changing spec and adding loads of stuff that you think want but in the real world don't really need , pretty sure what ever a buyer ends up with they not going to be disappointed.

saying that couple of things in an ideal world I would have liked are Cruise as this wasn't a lot to fit and handy on the average speed scamera parts of the A1 and the speed limit display thing, my S has this and although Ive never had it before until I got that car I must admit I missed it today when on roads Ive never been on.

You can retrofit cruise for not a huge amount of money, £400 ish I believe.

I was quite disappointed that a yet to be built Spyder will come with the old PCM 3. So that's £3,000 please for a now defunct system. This pushed me into going CDR+ which seems pretty good value.

Car sounds perfect. Good job.

from memory cruise was £900 to retro fit , I asked to get it on my S then decided against it when they said how much as I have fitted it myself on Audis and its tick a box in the ecu with vagcom and add a stalk, have nav on my S and never use it as I always know where im going !

CDR+ is better than I expected, I called and listened to a car with it in last week and it was woeful , it was almost a deal breaker on me buying this car tbh I can only think that someone had been fiddling with the bass and treble settings on the car I was in and I didnt think of checking, I did plan on upgrading the speakers but I dont think now I will, bose is better though and if its only an extra £800 as im into my tunes personally I would get it.

Never heard of it being quite so pricey. As far as I'm aware it's pretty much a new stalk and some coding. Might be worth shopping around because I think you'll get it for closer to £4/500.

Went for this, loved it the first time I saw it whilst looking at all the colour combinations. Right now I regret not going with silver wheels (I'm over a certain age....) but I know I'll love this combination, especially with the addition of decals.

As others have said, there's no such thing as a bad combination.

CWM and Satin wheels.

320 miles on the motorway but tbh was a lot of stop start and sat in traffic , I wasnt hanging around as you can see by the average speed bearing in mind I did the M25 and came up the A1 at rush hour , I also kept slowing down and using the gears with full throttle as didnt want to sit constant at 3,000rpm as its still not run in. the tank was full when I left Gatwick and plenty left when I got home.

I find Porsche are one of the most economical performance cars to run my 3.4S over the 9 months I have owned it has returned an average of 28 mpg and its used pretty much as my daily , on a steady run it will return 38mpg and my previous PDK I once managed 42 on a very boring 100mile drive down to Yorkshire with the 50mph speed cameras !

And me lol. As you know - love that pic of CWM & platinum wheels; but wifey said the black wheels looked more sexy - well that was it! But tbh all wheel combos look great.

there are lots of different thoughts on running in some say 2,000 miles steady away avoiding high revs, TBH im not a believer , all my engines that I have had built for my race cars have been run in the same way as advised by the engine builders and that is with a thin braking in oil, run the cams in, then on the road, drive hard at low revs with wide throttle openings for the first half an hour to bed in the rings and increasing rev range as time goes on after a good hour your done drop the oil , good quality oil in then straight into a race flat out ! this car had 700 miles when I collected it yesterday which had been done as advised by the OPC which I think Daryl said was keep under 5k and avoid constant revs .

Would you say from new you should drop the thin braking in oil after around 500 miles or less even. I know from my experience with bikes I couldn't wait to dump the braking in oil.

yeh I have always dropped mine on race engines after the 1st hour and get some decent stuff back in before mapping, I have no idea what Porsche recommend presume it must be very different as first service isnt til 20,000 miles ?

On the Techequipment web page they are quoting £540 for retrofit of cruise on the Spyder.
