TBH the Caterham was more like a limo in terms of comfort, soft suspension and big wall tyres, Spyder is rock hard and if you hit a bump feels like its going to shatter a wheel redface
feel as though I have been here before as years ago I went from a Caterham R600 to a new Elise Sc then after 500 miles (over 200 were collecting it) I sold it and switched back to a CSR260 as I hated the Lotus was horrible to drive, slow noisy, uncomfortable ! was only the other day I was saying to my pal that I thought the spyder felt more like an Elise than my other Boxster S ! Hopefully will keep the Spyder a bit longer hehe
Surprising about the ride. Wouldn't have expected it to much different than any other Cayster on X73 (wheels a bit wider but would that make much odds?) What tyres are you on? - I've found the ride very sensitive to tyre brand on my S. I think most normal Caysters come on Pzeros, which come in for a lot of stick (including from me) but the ride is pretty good, if noisy on coarse surfaces.

this was cap live valuation when I bought mine couple weeks ago it came free with a HPI check . far from anything like as it calculated average mileage at 10,000 and new price at £60k but this is what insurance companies get their info from and what they start there negotiations with, its all uphill from there .

Its on P zeros, it feels firmer than my 63 plate Boxster S , both cars are on 20" wheels Spyder has much less ground clearance and considerably more tyre and road noise but suspect that is to do with the lack of insulation, I recall when going from my 09 Boxster to my 63 that I noted the noise level was much higher and Spyder is noisier again, I can imagine anyone going from an earlier car to a new Spyder will get the shock of their life! also noticed when I parked next to an 08 Boxster last week how much bigger the new model is, old car looks more like the size a Boxster should be !!

I've just popped a 2k mile 65 plate Spyder into the We Buy Any Car webside - £42,650!

I just popped a similar age/mileage GT4 into WeBuyAnyCar and got £83,520. That's a huge differential.

But this has been the case for many years with Glasses Guide and Cap......they are only guides and apply merely to mainstream vehicles for which they are often way out anyway.....hence the expression 'under book' for less desirable stuff and 'over book' for more desirable.

Given the joke low and grossly inaccurate prices quoted for cars such as the Spyder this reinforces the need to keep constantly updated records of advertised and sale prices of similar cars should the worst happen and you need to go to war with your insurance company. yes

I went with Locktons through Porsche Club GB. They are happy to insure at a fixed value, subject to a professional valuation. That sounded like the best route for me. It is an a second car policy with no track cover (which is what I wanted) and the premium was slightly less than Porsche Insurance.

Hope that helps.

Sorry, just noticed the valuation issue also. I'm also in the trade and CAP struggle without sufficient data. Unfortunately they'll be basing their valuations on the resale of other Boxsters, and they'll average it for spec also. not ideal for Porsches in general, never mind something as specialist as a Spyder potentially with a chunk of options on it.

I've just driven home in a Boxster S loan car with PDK. The speed and handling differential with the Spyder is absolutely vast, in fact the 'S' almost feels like a different car. I can't believe there is only 60 or so bhp between them!

Insurance via Marsh will give you a new replacement car or I believe the full insured price of the car if it is written off or stolen in the first year. The Gap insurance really only covers the differential in year 2 or 3. Should you fully finance the car the deposit may use up a substantial part of your savings hence the what you are paying for is to get that deposit back plus any additional depreciation in that period. This should allow you to get into another car of the same value. It depends on personal circumstances and your attitude to risk whether or not you take it out. Personally, I have taken it for peace of mind as I don't have the spare cash to put into another one should I loose it.

tried Locktons (aston martin club insurer ? ?) but I couldnt get a quote online so called the number but office is shut .

on Confused , LV were the cheapest at £440 for me but require a tracker at level 5 fitting which doesnt sound cheap time you add that!

tried Admiral they insure with no tracker but they dont recognise 25 years no claims with motor trade policy so they doubled the quote !

anyone else got a sensible quote to insure with no tracker ?

I insured with NFU Mutual, no tracker needed, but 1600 excess if stolen. They will cover value of the car based on recent sales. Premium was cheaper than anything on comparison sites.

I've had GAP insurance in past to protect against the risk of the payout being less than the original invoice price; however, on a car such as this (and the GT4), which is immediately worth more than you paid, how can GAP actually cover you?!?!

It will only cover what you paid, at lest you will get your money back. I understand where you are coming from, if the car goes up in value then that increase wont be covered.

Can anyone tell me the price of a decent tracker? One that insurance companies will recognise, and pref one with an app or similar whereas I can also track the car (is there such a thing??)
When I pick my car up in 3 weeks, it's something I am seriously considering getting done
